The Annual Dinner Dance celebrating St.<br />
Patrick’s Day breaks attendance records for<br />
the second year in a row. (below) The DSA<br />
returned to the Vista Wave Waterpark for a<br />
family-friendly summer event.<br />
In April, new Store Manager Ken Docken took the helm <strong>of</strong> the<br />
DSA Store. He worked to expand the uniform and gear range. If<br />
you haven’t been to the DSA Store this year, you should stop by<br />
and check out the amazing deals on duty gear.<br />
For the second year, the DSA helped subsidize members’ trips<br />
to the state and national memorials. Bringing a contingency <strong>of</strong><br />
deputies to the memorials allows our nine deputies killed in the<br />
line <strong>of</strong> duty to never be forgotten.<br />
The DSA also expanded its education program with the Union<br />
Institute University and National University, <strong>of</strong>fering classes at<br />
the DSA <strong>of</strong>fices. The DSA hopes that the accessibility <strong>of</strong> these<br />
classes will help more members earn<br />
their degree.<br />
While the DSA prepared for<br />
negotiations next year and the<br />
impact <strong>of</strong> the new pension reform<br />
and worker’s comp legislation, focus<br />
turned towards two <strong>of</strong> our members.<br />
Det. Ali Perez and Sgt. Craig Johnson<br />
were wounded in a gun battle. While<br />
Craig was released from the hospital<br />
quickly, Ali Perez underwent several<br />
surgeries and days in the hospital.<br />
Members <strong>of</strong> our department and the<br />
public banded together to raise funds<br />
for Ali and his family.<br />
The DSA supported several<br />
fundraisers organized by deputies.<br />
