Income and expenditure are compared, so is the impact of fundraising, an activity that might be considered outside the core mission of the group. The sustainability of Cork Academy of Music and Togher Music Project, which are primarily reliant on grant income, and of the four member groups, which rely on fundraising, is analysed. Parttime and outreach programmes are examined to highlight different approaches to sustainability. In section 3 the combined income and expenditure of seven community groups was analysed. A realistic picture of budgets was obtained by removing participant wages from the FÁS programmes. Table 4.2 shows that income exceeds expenditure by just over €2,000, which is less than one percent of total income. This surplus is marginal and ,8E8!'*)'
