Degree Programs — Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Intercultural Service, continued<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Intercultural Service<br />
It has been said that “only if the church understands the full biblical revelation <strong>of</strong> God concerning<br />
the mission <strong>of</strong> God’s people, stimulated by confronting Scripture with today’s questions, will they be<br />
responsibly challenged to <strong>of</strong>fer to God the devotion <strong>of</strong> heart, strength, time, and resources essential to its<br />
completion” (Glasser). The Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Intercultural Service is a 48-semester-hour degree program<br />
(a total <strong>of</strong> 16 courses) <strong>of</strong> graduate study designed to prepare individuals to serve the church in specific<br />
fields <strong>of</strong> mission and outreach. The degree is designed for those desiring to engage in intercultural ministries<br />
either in the United States or overseas, with concerns for both urban and rural contexts.<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
In addition to the standard process <strong>of</strong> admission to the seminary, acceptance into this program requires<br />
an interview with the pr<strong>of</strong>essor most closely related to the proposed program <strong>of</strong> study and a written essay as<br />
instructed by the pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />
Although admitted to the seminary with this degree program in view, students are not recognized as<br />
candidates for this degree until the above statement is written, the recommendation has been made, and a<br />
detailed program <strong>of</strong> studies has been developed and approved. This process should be initiated during the<br />
student’s first semester in seminary.<br />

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS<br />
• Remove, within the first 12 hours <strong>of</strong> graduate work, any undergraduate academic<br />
deficiencies identified at the time <strong>of</strong> admission to the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Theology</strong>.<br />
• Complete the orientation and testing program.<br />
• Achieve a grade <strong>of</strong> C- or above in all required courses.<br />
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5.<br />
• Complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 48 graduate-level semester hours, including the courses listed below.<br />
