5000 Orientation to Online Graduate Theological Studies 1 hr.<br />

Nature and process <strong>of</strong> online studies. Nature and process <strong>of</strong> graduate theological studies. note: First<br />

required course for Online M.A.C.M. degree. prerequisite: Enrollment in Online MACM degree.<br />

5900 Research Design: Principles and Skills 1 hrs.<br />

Methods <strong>of</strong> research, bibliography, and design for thesis with attention to form and principles <strong>of</strong><br />

writing.<br />

6040 The Kingdom <strong>of</strong> God and Eschatology 3 hrs.<br />

A survey <strong>of</strong> biblical, historical, and systematic understandings <strong>of</strong> the Kingdom <strong>of</strong> God.<br />

Consideration will be given to how these understandings are worked out in relation to a view <strong>of</strong> history<br />

and eschatology.<br />

6110 The Doctrine <strong>of</strong> the Trinity 3 hrs.<br />

The course presents the historic, classic, and orthodox doctrine <strong>of</strong> the Holy Trinity. It follows a biblical,<br />

historical, and dogmatic approach. It seeks to show how and why the classical doctrine/dogma<br />

emerged in the fourth century, what have been the major ways this dogma has been understood,<br />

and how crucial is this teaching for a right understanding <strong>of</strong> the relation <strong>of</strong> God to us and <strong>of</strong> us to<br />

God. <strong>of</strong>fered: Arranged only.<br />

6210 <strong>Theology</strong> and Leadership for a Multi-Ethnic World 3 hrs.<br />

This course examines key approaches to ministry leadership development that address the challenge<br />

<strong>of</strong> racial and ethnic tensions in the church and community. The course intends to aid ministers in<br />

preparing for and developing multi-ethnic leadership for diverse constituencies. Special emphasis is<br />

given to the role <strong>of</strong> today’s leaders in developing effective models <strong>of</strong> leadership for promoting reconciliation,<br />

healing, and unity.<br />

6510 Constructive <strong>Theology</strong> I 3 hrs.<br />

Foundational work regarding the role <strong>of</strong> Christian doctrine and theological reflection in the life <strong>of</strong><br />

the church. Work in theological method including the issue <strong>of</strong> biblical authority. Consideration<br />

given to the theological and doctrinal life <strong>of</strong> the church from the first century to the present era<br />

with special emphasis on contemporary developments. Major attention given to both classical and<br />

contemporary Trinitarian thought and to current challenges to it, as well as the nature <strong>of</strong> creation<br />

and humankind.<br />

6550 Constructive <strong>Theology</strong> II 3 hrs.<br />

Foundational work regarding the role <strong>of</strong> Christian doctrine and theological reflection in the life <strong>of</strong><br />

the church. Attention given to the person and work <strong>of</strong> Jesus Christ, to the person and work <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Holy Spirit, to the kingdom <strong>of</strong> God and its relation to the church, and the end <strong>of</strong> the age. Students<br />

required to write integrative papers on doctrinal matters and to do so in relation to biblical materials;<br />

historical doctrinal traditions; other dimensions <strong>of</strong> Christian thought; and contemporary church<br />

experience, questions, and issues. prerequisite: THST 6510.<br />

7010 Readings in Theological Classics 3 hrs.<br />

Examines the work <strong>of</strong> one major Christian theologian. The possibilities include Augustine, Aquinas,<br />

Luther, Calvin, Arminius, John Wesley, and Jonathan Edwards.<br />

7330 Theological Ethics 3 hrs.<br />

Examination <strong>of</strong> ethics from the standpoint <strong>of</strong> character and virtue. Attention given to elements<br />

that contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> a virtuous life: the idea <strong>of</strong> character, communities and their<br />

formative narratives, the virtues, and a telos <strong>of</strong> human existence. This concludes in Christian moral<br />

reflection about specific ethical issues in science, medicine, sexuality, church-state issues, and other<br />

significant technological and social trends.<br />

7340 Ethics for the Vocation <strong>of</strong> Ministry 3 hrs.<br />

A systematic examination <strong>of</strong> the moral life <strong>of</strong> the minister from the perspective <strong>of</strong> Christian character<br />

and virtue. Within this context, specific attention will be given to issues <strong>of</strong> sexuality, stewardship,<br />
