Preparation <strong>of</strong> a thesis under the guidance <strong>of</strong> department faculty. note: Library approval<br />

required prior to completion <strong>of</strong> thesis. prerequisite: HCUS 5900. grade: S/U registration.<br />

7955 Thesis Continuation 1 hr.<br />

Students who have not completed their thesis within the semester in which they enrolled, but<br />

carry their work forward into another semester must register for this 1 hour course. Approval<br />

7960 Missional Studies Integration/Capstone 3 hrs.<br />

Advanced seminary integrating theology, spiritual formation, and practice <strong>of</strong> missiology.<br />

Pastoral Studies<br />

Faculty: John H. Aukerman, Guy R. Brewer, MaryAnn Hawkins, David L. Sebastian<br />

Ministry calls for church leaders who understand and respond actively to the cultural complexities <strong>of</strong><br />

church and society. The seminary seeks to prepare women and men who possess strong Christian commitments<br />

and appropriate pr<strong>of</strong>essional skills. To enable leaders to grapple effectively with the demands <strong>of</strong> ministry,<br />

students are <strong>of</strong>fered opportunities to integrate theological field education, internships, pastoral clinical<br />

work, leadership experiences, and ministerial formation with other academic disciplines. This integration<br />

takes place in a community <strong>of</strong> servants/learners.<br />

PAST COURSES<br />

5000 Seminary Chorus 1 hr.<br />

Open to all seminary community individuals interested in choral experience. The Seminary<br />

Chorus rehearses weekly and sings for occasional chapel services and special programs. repeat:<br />

5110 Women and Men in Ministry Partnership 3 hrs.<br />

The participation <strong>of</strong> women in the vocation <strong>of</strong> ministry has contributed greatly to the mission <strong>of</strong><br />

the church. The class explores theological, sociological, psychological, and political issues raised<br />

by women in partnership with men in the ministerial vocation. Reflection groups and resource/<br />

research sessions are used to consider these issues.<br />

5120 The Teaching Ministry <strong>of</strong> the Church 2 hrs.<br />

Learning theory and teaching methods. Offered online only.<br />

5130 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Religious Behavior 3 hrs.<br />

An exploration <strong>of</strong> a wide sweep <strong>of</strong> psychological theories and research around the subject <strong>of</strong> religiosity<br />

and religious behavior toward the goal <strong>of</strong> better understanding the human element in religion.<br />

In keeping with the ethos <strong>of</strong> <strong>Anderson</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Theology</strong>, this course is taught<br />

from a Christian worldview with an eye toward deepening students’ understanding, appreciation,<br />

and ministry <strong>of</strong> reconciliation towards people <strong>of</strong> diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.<br />
