LOOC culture was responsible for the<br />

commissioning, logistics and organizing of all the<br />

concert events.<br />

A temporary circus tent (capacity: 3 500) at<br />

Sportsplassen in Lillehammer was the main<br />

venue for pop music. 25 concerts were held over<br />

a period of five weeks. The “Tent” was run by a<br />

staff of 70 persons (20 professionals and 50<br />

volunteers). Catering was also offered at the site.<br />

Fifteen “Olympic Nights” were also held in<br />

Hamar, with a staff of two professionals and ten volunteers.<br />

There were five “Olympic Nights” in Gjøvik. A production<br />

manager worked closely with the municipality’s programme<br />

coordinator to organise the concerts.<br />

Twenty-two “Olympic Nights” concerts were held at<br />

Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo. Rockefeller is a permanent<br />

concert house for popular music.<br />

O l y m p i c m u s i c i a n s<br />

Bel Canto, Sissel Kyrkjebø and Bukkene Bruse performed four<br />

concerts each during the Olympics in Lillehammer, Hamar,<br />

Gjøvik and Oslo. The musicians also had other Olympic<br />

assignments.<br />

f Bel Canto composed a piece together with the National<br />

Broadcasting Orchestra for the official opening of the radio<br />

channel PeTre.<br />

f Bukkene Bruse performed for IBM and Kodak. The group<br />

also did a five-day tour together with the Atlanta band “The<br />

Foxfire Boys” in the Olympic Region and Oslo in February<br />

1994. The tour came about after a musical meeting in<br />

Atlanta in February 1993.<br />

f Sissel Kyrkjebø held two concerts in the Olympic Region<br />

together with the Oslo Gospel Choir.<br />

The official Olympic Fanfare for the XVII<br />

Olympic Winter Games at Lillehammer was<br />

composed by Nils Henrik Asheim. LOOC was the producer of<br />

a CD in connection with this composition. 1 000 copies of the<br />

CD were made and distributed to national and international<br />

audio and audiovisual media. The CD was not available to the<br />

general public for sale.<br />

The musicians hired to play the official Olympic Fanfare<br />

were trumpet players Jens Petter Antonsen and Olympic<br />

musician Ole Edvard Antonsen. Bjørn Nessjø was the<br />

producer. The CD was published by Sony Music Publishing<br />

Japan, A Division of Sony Music Artists Inc. Tokyo.<br />

P r e - O l y m p ic c on c e rt<br />

The “Spill levende (Play-it-Live)” festival at Lillehammer,<br />

where about 600 marching bands from all over Norway<br />

participated, marked the 75th anniversary of the Norwegian<br />

Marching Band Association. LOOC organized an even larger<br />

concert at Lysgårdsbakken Ski Jumping Arena. Stageway<br />

Management AS operated as the technical organizer.<br />

The concert was very successful and had 29 870 paying<br />

guests. The event was filmed by the Norwegian Broadcasting<br />

Corporation (NRK) and aired as a one-hour programme. The<br />

programme was seen by approximately 600 000 television<br />

viewers.
