the right side of a stressful situation,
but here are four simple mindsets that
can be used for any obstacle at hand:
1
Realize that nothing is permanent,
not even you. So if you’re
impermanent, how can your problems
be permanent While this might sound
negative, understanding that everything
in life is transitory will give you an empowering
viewpoint with respect
to your current challenges.
Reminding yourself that
whatever turbulence you’re
experiencing at this moment
is temporary will encourage
you to keep elevating yourself
in search of that perfect cruising
altitude.
On the other hand, even when things
are perfect, embracing a temporary
mindset can be very helpful. After all,
people’s zest for life is frequently dampened
not by misfortunes but by their inability
to appreciate what’s already great
around them. Therefore, if you begin to
remind yourself that this moment—no
A United Front
T
matter how perfect—will come to an
end, you’ll start appreciating all of the
positives in your life that you’ve been
taking for granted.
2
Embrace failure. Your failures
exist for one and only one reason:
to make your future successes possible.
Instead of complaining and asking life to
stop throwing things at you, start recognizing
your current dilemma as building
material. Life tosses bricks to all of us; it’s
up to you to build an artistic masterpiece
or to end up with a pile of rubble.
Keep this thought in mind by Ralph
Waldo Emerson: “Cultivate the habit of
being grateful for every good thing that
comes to you, and to give thanks continuously.
And because all things have contributed
to your advancement, you should
include all things in your gratitude.” Be
thankful even for failures, for they are an
indispensable component of your success.
Find the silver lining. Constantly
ask yourself one simple question:
3
Cultivate
the habit of
being grateful.
HERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SUCCEED AT MARKETING your course on the Internet.
Some facilities use email blasts, which contain information sent directly to the inboxes
of their loyal customers. Other clubs boost revenue with strategic, limited-time
sales that they offer at different times throughout the year. And many operators have
seen success by simply adding an online store to their Web site.
Autumn Ridge Golf Club in Valders, Wisconsin, combined all three approaches
and realized a substantial boost in business during the unlikeliest of times. In the
middle of winter, management sent out a one-day special to 8,000 customers in its
database, offering customers the opportunity to buy eight tee times and receive four
additional for free. This offer resulted in $32,000 in sales of prepaid golf.
Sweetening the deal for Autumn Ridge was the way the promotion yielded more
profit than originally meets the eye. Among those prepaid rounds, director of operations
Chad Harrington reported an eventual redemption rate of approximately
80 percent. Meanwhile, 60 percent of those rounds were redeemed in the shoulder
season, when the course’s rates were at their lowest.
On the surface, the discount seemed like 33 percent off; however, when it was
complete, the effective discount amounted to only 13 percent. Harrington believes
that’s not too much to sacrifice, considering the revenue boost the facility experienced.
What great opportunity can come out of
my current circumstances Asking this
question will train you to look
for the hidden positives that lie
within your challenges and keep
you from wasting it on complaining
about the negatives.
Once you start seeing the
silver lining in every incident,
your challenges will cease to be
the heavy blocks that previously
burdened you; instead, they’ll
become stepping stones from where
you can stand just a little taller. It’s
at this point that you’ll experience a
new height, regardless of the negatives
thrown your way.
4
Trust the bigger plan. You no
doubt have big plans, but understand
that however large your plans may
be, the universe has much bigger plans
for you. When you’re discouraged and
things aren’t working according to your
plans, realize that there’s something else
guiding you and understand that what
you perceive as a detour might be the
actual road you must travel.
Don’t get so caught up on the way
things should’ve been, could’ve been
or would’ve been because looking from
where you stand you’ll never be able
to comprehend the magnitude of the
grand plan that’s in store for you. Trust
that you are where you are because
that’s where you need to be. Then you
might get a glimpse at how insignificant
your initial plan was and how grandiose
your current one is.
