Allāh – so he is ei<strong>the</strong>r killed, or Allāh helps him and suffices him. And Allāh says, “Look at My
slave! How he patiently endured by himself, for Me!” 27
And in ano<strong>the</strong>r narration, <strong>the</strong> Prophet صلى االله عليه و سلم said,
ثلاثة يحبهم االله ...
و رجل كان في سرية فلقوا العدو فهزموا فأقبل بصدره حتى يقتل أو يفتح له
The Messenger of Allāh said, “Three (types of people) Allāh are beloved by Allāh…” and among
<strong>the</strong>m is “… a man who was in a battalion and met <strong>the</strong> enemy, and <strong>the</strong>y were defeated, but he faced <strong>the</strong>m
with his chest until he was killed or victorious.” 28
Eleven:
من خير معاش الناس لهم ، رجل ممسك عنان فرسه في سبيل االله ، يطير على متنه ، كلما سمع هيعة أو فزعة
طار عليه ، يبتغي القتل ، و الموت مظانه
Narrated from Abū Hurayrah, that <strong>the</strong> Messenger of Allāh said, “Among <strong>the</strong> best of people, is a
man who clasps <strong>the</strong> reins of his horse in <strong>the</strong> Path of Allāh, flying on its back; whenever he hears a call (for
battle) or advancement towards <strong>the</strong> enemy - he flies to it, seeking death and being slain with eagerness …” 29

At-Targhīb (629). Shaykh Abū Qutaybah Ash-Shāmī mentioned, “When some of <strong>the</strong> Mujāhidūn in
Afghānistān had to strategically retreat in a fierce battle near <strong>the</strong> city of Jalālabād, after <strong>the</strong> Russians
began an enormous onslaught in that area, using a large number of tanks – our bro<strong>the</strong>r, Shaqīq
Ibrāhīm Al-Madanī, remained behind alone, to distract <strong>the</strong> Russians, while <strong>the</strong> rest of <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>rs
retreated due to <strong>the</strong> extremity of <strong>the</strong> pounding of <strong>the</strong> bombs upon <strong>the</strong>m; so he fought against <strong>the</strong>m
using mortars, until he was killed – may Allāh have mercy upon him. A missile came and exploded
near him; no trace of him could be seen, and no grave contained his body. So may Allāh show a
gracious mercy to him.”

Narrated by Ibn Abī Shaybah in his Musannaf (5/289), and At-Tirmithī declared it Sahīh (2491,
2492); An-Nasā’ī (1597, 2523), and Ahmad in his Musnad; as well as At-Tabarānī in Al-Kabīr with a
Hasan chain; Al-Hākim also narrated it, and declared it as Sahīh. Al-Albānī mentioned in Mishkāt Al-
Masābīh (1864) that its chain is weak, but it has similar narrations which are strong and au<strong>the</strong>ntic.
Also, in ano<strong>the</strong>r similar Hadīth, <strong>the</strong> Prophet صلى االله عليه و سلم said that Allāh loves three types of
people, and hates three types of people. So one of <strong>the</strong> Companions asked, “Who are <strong>the</strong>se three
people that Allāh loves” So <strong>the</strong> Messenger replied, “A man who raids in <strong>the</strong> Path of Allāh, patiently
enduring, and seeking (<strong>the</strong> Mercy of Allāh), so he fights until he is killed. And you will find this person with you,
, إِن َّ الل َّه يحِب ال َّذِين يق َاتِل ُون َ فِي سبِيلِهِ‏ صفا ك َأ َنهم بنيان ٌ مرصوص written in <strong>the</strong> Book of Allāh.” He <strong>the</strong>n recited <strong>the</strong> verse,
“Verily, Allāh loves those who fight in His Cause in rows as if <strong>the</strong>y were a solid structure.”
[As-Saff: 4].” Declared Sahīh by Al-Albānī in Sahīh At-Targhīb (2569).
