Introduction
All praise is due to Allāh, <strong>the</strong> Lord and Sustainer of <strong>the</strong> Worlds, <strong>the</strong> One Who informs us
that:
﴿ ول َولا َ دف ْع الل ّهِ‏ الناس بعضهم بِبعضٍ‏ ل َّف َسدتِ‏ الأَرض ﴾
“And if Allāh did not prevent one set of people by means of ano<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> world would
indeed be full of corruption.” 1
The salutations and peace be upon <strong>the</strong> Imām of Guidance, <strong>the</strong> Master of <strong>the</strong> Messengers, <strong>the</strong>
one who said,
والذي نفسي بيده لوددت أن أقتل في سبيل االله ثم أحيا فأقتل ثم أحيا فأقتل
“By [Allāh] in Whose Hand is my soul! Verily, I would love to be killed in <strong>the</strong> Path of Allāh, <strong>the</strong>n
brought to life, <strong>the</strong>n killed [again], <strong>the</strong>n brought to life, <strong>the</strong>n killed!” 2
And he who also said,
إعملوا فكل ميسر لما خلق له
“Act (do), and each will be eased to that for which he was created.” 3
Allāh legislated Jihād for <strong>the</strong> dignity of this Ummah, knowing that it is abhorrent to us. As
Allāh has notified us,
﴿ ك ُتِب عل َيك ُم ال ْقِتال ُ وهو ك ُره ل َّك ُم وعسى أ َن تك ْرهوا ْ شيئ ًا وهو خير ل َّك ُم وعسى أ َن تحِبوا ْ شيئ ًا
وهو شر ل َّك ُم والل ّه يعل َم وأ َنتم لا َ تعل َمون َ ﴾

‘Abdil-Barr رحمه االله declared it Sahīh in At-Tamhīd (18/340).
