3 Steps to Prepare for Pre-Entrance Exam
Prerequisites for Surgical Technology, Practical Nursing and Diagnostic Medical Sonography: a
high school diploma or equivalent AND a satisfactory score on a pre-entrance exam. You are urged
to take the free TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) test to be certain you have the math and
reading skills to be successful on the pre-entrance exam and in these rigorous programs. For details
on application procedures, program requirements and brochure, return the coupon on page 9.
Tech’s PN graduates have 96.5% pass rate on their national certification exams.
If you are uncertain about your reading and math skills or you have been out of
Step #1 school for a while: Take the Basic Skills class before the TABE.
Basic Skills
Your success in any health class will depend on your ability to compute basic math problems and
understand textbooks and written directions. This class will help you boost both your English and
math skills. Successful completion of this course qualifies you to retake the TABE test given on the
last night of class. Bring a blue or black ink pen and photo id for the TABE. You must satisfactorily
pass the TABE before registering for any prep class.

TABE—Test of Adult Basic Education NO CHARGE
Students MUST satisfactorily pass this test before enrolling in a pre-entrance prep class for Practical
Nursing, Surgical Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or to enroll in the Nurse Assisting,
Medical Assisting/Lab Assisting programs. The test covers basic math computation and reading comprehension.
No advance registration necessary. Bring a blue or black ink pen and photo id.

Prep Classes for Pre-Entrance Exams: Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology
and Sonography
To enter our Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs,
you must first satisfactorily pass an entrance exam. Take a prep course to help you prepare for
your entrance exam. Work on your reading comprehension, basic math skills, and critical thinking.
Prerequisite to these prep classes: Satisfactory score on the TABE test. NOTE: For those taking the
prep class, the next Sonography class with available seats will begin in July 2008. To register, call
