Certified Internet Webmaster
This certificate program offers industry-wide recognition of an individual’s internet and web
knowledge and skills. Professional and Master Certificates provide tangible evidence of your
competency as an internet professional. The CIW certificates
are aimed at professionals who design, develop,
administer, secure and support internet- or intranetrelated
services and at those desirous of joining this
growing field.
Students first work for a CIW Certificate in
each of the three steps described below.
To qualify to sit for the exam leading to
one of these CIW Certificates, a student
must successfully complete the course(s)
required at that step. Once you have earned all
three CIW Certificates, you qualify for the CIW
Master Certificate. For your convenience you
can take your certification exams at Tech, an
authorized VUE Testing Center. Prerequisites:
knowledge of Windows or Macintosh plus Web
Page Design (Intro) on page 37 or equivalent.
CIW certificates are the only ones endorsed by the world’s premier associations of Internet
professionals: International Association of Webmasters (IWA), the Association of Internet
Professionals (AIP), and the Internet Certification Institute International (ICII).
STEP 1 for CIW Associate
Foundations Series
These are the fundamentals you must take to
build specialized internet skills and begin to
work toward any CIW certification. Includes
internet fundamentals, web page authoring,
and networking fundamentals. Prerequisite:
Web Page Design–Intro, see page 37.

STEP 2 for CIW Professional
Design Methodology/Technology
Learn to create and manage web sites with
Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash,
FrontPage, Dynamic HTML and various
multimedia and CSS standards. Students will
also implement the latest strategies to develop
third-generation web sites, evaluate design
tools, discuss future technology standards, and
explore the incompatibility issues surrounding
current browsers. Focus on theory, design, and
web construction, along with information architecture
concepts, web project management,
scenario development and performance evalu-
ations. Prerequisite: Successful completion of
CIW Foundation Series.

E-Commerce Strategies/Practices
Prepare yourself for the world of e-commerce!
Learn the technological issues associated
with constructing a web site for
conducting business online. Students will
actually implement a web site for handling
transactions between consumers and a business.
Examine strategies and products for
building electronic-commerce sites, examine
how such sites are managed, and explore
how they can complement the infrastructure
of an existing business. Create smooth
electronic transactions between the credit
card holder, the merchant, the card issuer,
and the business’ own financial institution.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of CIW
Foundation Series and CIW-Design Methodology/Technology
