Certified Internet Webmaster<br />

This certificate program <strong>of</strong>fers industry-wide recognition <strong>of</strong> an individual’s internet and web<br />

knowledge and skills. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional and Master Certificates provide tangible evidence <strong>of</strong> your<br />

competency as an internet pr<strong>of</strong>essional. The CIW certificates<br />

are aimed at pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who design, develop,<br />

administer, secure and support internet- or intranetrelated<br />

services and at those desirous <strong>of</strong> joining this<br />

growing field.<br />

Students first work for a CIW Certificate in<br />

each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> three steps described below.<br />

To qualify to sit for <strong>the</strong> exam leading to<br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se CIW Certificates, a student<br />

must successfully complete <strong>the</strong> course(s)<br />

required at that step. Once you have earned all<br />

three CIW Certificates, you qualify for <strong>the</strong> CIW<br />

Master Certificate. For your convenience you<br />

can take your certification exams at Tech, an<br />

authorized VUE Testing Center. Prerequisites:<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> Windows or Macintosh plus Web<br />

Page Design (Intro) on page 37 or equivalent.<br />

CIW certificates are <strong>the</strong> only ones endorsed by <strong>the</strong> world’s premier associations <strong>of</strong> Internet<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals: International Association <strong>of</strong> Webmasters (IWA), <strong>the</strong> Association <strong>of</strong> Internet<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals (AIP), and <strong>the</strong> Internet Certification Institute International (ICII).<br />

Learn to create and manage web sites with<br />

Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash,<br />

FrontPage, Dynamic HTML and various<br />

multimedia and CSS standards. Students will<br />

also implement <strong>the</strong> latest strategies to develop<br />

third-generation web sites, evaluate design<br />

tools, discuss future technology standards, and<br />

explore <strong>the</strong> incompatibility issues surrounding<br />

current browsers. Focus on <strong>the</strong>ory, design, and<br />

web construction, along with information architecture<br />

concepts, web project management,<br />

scenario development and performance evalu-<br />

STEP 3 for CIW Master Designer<br />

E-Commerce Strategies/Practices<br />

Prepare yourself for <strong>the</strong> world <strong>of</strong> e-commerce!<br />

Learn <strong>the</strong> technological issues associated<br />

with constructing a web site for<br />

conducting business online. Students will<br />

actually implement a web site for handling<br />

transactions between consumers and a business.<br />

Examine strategies and products for<br />

building electronic-commerce sites, examine<br />

how such sites are managed, and explore<br />

how <strong>the</strong>y can complement <strong>the</strong> infrastructure<br />

<strong>of</strong> an existing business. Create smooth<br />

electronic transactions between <strong>the</strong> credit<br />

card holder, <strong>the</strong> merchant, <strong>the</strong> card issuer,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> business’ own financial institution.<br />
