Yes! Admissions counselors are available to help
you make the best possible class choices. Career
counseling, GED programs, and English as a
Second Language (ESL) classes are offered at
Western Suffolk BOCES and community sites.
Tech’s job placement service offers lifetime assistance
to graduates of our Career Certificate
programs and our full-time programs. To meet
with a career counselor, call our Career Center
at 631/667-6000 x327 from 8 AM–9 PM Mon.-
Thur. or 8 AM–4 PM on Fri.
Does BOCES offer financial aid
or tuition assistance
• The following programs are eligible for Title
IV funding: Aircraft Maintenance, Sonography,
Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology
and Appearance Enhancement programs.

• Grant funds and tuition assistance may be
available for single parents, displaced homemakers,
veterans, and adults experiencing

Can I receive tax incentives for
BOCES courses
The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 created the
Lifetime Learning Credit, which is a tax incentive
to help you offset the cost of your continuing
education course work. A family can claim on
its tax return a credit equal to 20% of $5,000 of
educational expenses, so the maximum benefit is
$1,000 for each tax year. For further information,
contact your tax advisor.
Are there any additional costs
We make every effort to include all costs, including
books and basic hand tools, as part of
course tuition. In limited instances students are
required to purchase personal protective equipment
or personal tools. Your course description
in this catalog will indicate any additional costs
or requirements.
Will I receive a certificate and
CEUs
Yes, you will! Certificates of completion are issued
to all career & technical education students
who have successfully completed a course. To be
eligible for a certificate, you must attend 80% of
the class sessions (unless otherwise stipulated)
and complete all other course requirements with
a grade of 80% or above. You will also earn one
Continuing Education Credit (CEU) for every 10
hours of study. Ask your employer if CEUs count
toward promotions. Some companies reimburse
employees who successfully complete courses
that offer CEUs.
Do Tech courses qualify for
veteran’s benefits
Yes, veterans may qualify for complimentary
training at Wilson Technological Center through
the Division of Veteran Affairs. Contact your local
Veterans’ representative or call 631/667-6000
x195 to speak with our veterans’ advisor.
Does Tech offer gift certificates
There’s no greater gift than the gift of learning!
