accredited by <strong>the</strong> National Accrediting Commission<br />

<strong>of</strong> Cosmetology Arts & Sciences. Financial<br />

Cosmetology<br />

For those with artistic flair, cosmetology <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />

wide variety <strong>of</strong> opportunities. Learn care <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

skin, hair, scalp, and nails in this 1,000-hour program<br />

as you prepare for NYS licensing. Full-time<br />

students are required to purchase a cosmetology<br />

kit ($122) designated uniform ($50), and pay<br />

a state exam fee ($60) not included in tuition.<br />

<strong>the</strong> counselor. Begin on <strong>the</strong> first school day <strong>of</strong><br />

Es<strong>the</strong>tics, <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> skin care and make-up, is<br />

now a specialty requiring a separate NYS license<br />

in Es<strong>the</strong>tics. This 600-hour course will cover<br />

*with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> counselor and instructor.<br />

NOTE: Tuition for all appearance enhancement courses includes a $25 non-refundable fee.<br />

Laser Hair Reduction & Medical Aes<strong>the</strong>tics<br />

Hands-on Training Seminar<br />

This nationally accredited, advanced Rockwell<br />

Laser Training course covers basic<br />

fundamentals <strong>of</strong> laser safety, physics, clinical<br />

and technical parameters essential to<br />

cosmetic laser usage. Oriented principally<br />

towards physicians, physician assistants,<br />

and nurses, <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> BOCES <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

a special modified section <strong>of</strong> this course<br />

for Aes<strong>the</strong>ticians and Electrologists. Topics<br />

include: recognizing <strong>the</strong> fundamental<br />

concepts <strong>of</strong> laser science; biophysics and<br />

tissue effects <strong>of</strong> lasers; identifying hazards<br />

associated with healthcare laser systems<br />

and <strong>the</strong> appropriate control measures<br />

required; implementing regulatory and<br />

advisory guidelines for development <strong>of</strong> a<br />

laser program; familiarization with common<br />

treatment conditions; laser or lightbased<br />

equipment selection and potential<br />

problems/common mistakes; cooling<br />

mechanisms; clinical endpoints; and posttreatment<br />
