and Waxing. These four programs are
accredited by the National Accrediting Commission
of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences. Financial

Appearance Enhancement (Make-Up Hours)
If you lack hours to meet state licensing requirements,
take just the hours you need! Transfer credits
can also be evaluated and credit given if approved.
Must successfully complete a module’s minimum

Cosmetology
For those with artistic flair, cosmetology offers a
wide variety of opportunities. Learn care of the
skin, hair, scalp, and nails in this 1,000-hour program
as you prepare for NYS licensing. Full-time
students are required to purchase a cosmetology
kit ($122) designated uniform ($50), and pay
a state exam fee ($60) not included in tuition.
Information will be provided at registration by
the counselor. Begin on the first school day of
every month.*

Esthetics (skin care and make-up)
Esthetics, the field of skin care and make-up, is
now a specialty requiring a separate NYS license
in Esthetics. This 600-hour course will cover

Laser Hair Reduction & Medical Aesthetics
Hands-on Training Seminar
This nationally accredited, advanced Rockwell
Laser Training course covers basic
fundamentals of laser safety, physics, clinical
and technical parameters essential to
cosmetic laser usage. Oriented principally
towards physicians, physician assistants,
and nurses, Western Suffolk BOCES offers
a special modified section of this course
for Aestheticians and Electrologists. Topics
include: recognizing the fundamental
concepts of laser science; biophysics and
tissue effects of lasers; identifying hazards
associated with healthcare laser systems
and the appropriate control measures
required; implementing regulatory and
advisory guidelines for development of a
laser program; familiarization with common
treatment conditions; laser or lightbased
equipment selection and potential
problems/common mistakes; cooling
mechanisms; clinical endpoints; and posttreatment
