usually in elite burials with a tomb, burial chamber, and
sarcophagus (Ikram and Dodson 1998: 143). Consequently,
it is possible that the burials in KKT date to the end of the
Old Kingdom/First Intermediate period, but it is equally
possible that they are much later. All that can be said with
certainty, since the burial cuts truncate the Old Kingdom
walls of the site, is that the KKT burials definitely post-date
the KKT architecture.
Conclusion
Because of the small size of the KKT sample, it is difficult
to draw any general conclusions as to the exact nature of
the interments. Further, the poor preservation and lack
of burial goods make dating difficult. However, the fact
that all excavated burials were adult suggests that what
was excavated at KKT in 2008 possibly represents part of
a larger burial ground where age-related differential burial
was practiced.
