Frame Ground Connection<br />

WARNING: Be sure the system is properly grounded before applying power. Do not apply AC power<br />

before you ensure that grounds are connected. Electrical shock can cause serious or fatal<br />

injury. NEC requires that the frame and exposed conductive surfaces (metal parts) be<br />

connected to an approved earth ground. Local codes may also require proper grounding of<br />

generator systems.<br />

It is important for safety reasons that the Generator set, transfer switch and battery charger share<br />

a common Ground and neutral.<br />

The NEC requires that the frame and exposed metal surfaces be at local ground reference<br />

potential to avoid electrical shock hazard. A local ground reference may require a driven earth<br />

ground conductor at the generator installation site. Make the ground connection as shown in<br />

Figure 3-11. Use the appropriate size wire as required by NEC and local codes.<br />

1. Open the enclosure access panel door 2 ( Figure 3-1).<br />

2. Connect the ground wire to the “earth ground” terminal shown in Figure 3-11.<br />

This ground is the local reference ground to ground the generator frame only.<br />

AE8, AE10, AE11, and AE25<br />

These generators are shipped dry, which means there is no oil in the engine and no battery<br />

installed.<br />

1. Check the engine oil level, it should be empty.<br />

2. See Table 3-5 and add the appropriate amount of oil to the engine crankcase.<br />

3. Add a little at a time and check the oil level to ensure that you do not overfill the<br />

crankcase. Stop adding oil when the oil level reaches the full line.<br />

AE25 only<br />

1. Check the coolant level while the engine is cold, it should be full.<br />

2. If the coolant level is low, add some coolant as recommended in the engine manual<br />

(usually a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water).<br />
