<strong>Best</strong> <strong>Practices</strong> <strong>in</strong> Action<br />

Integrat<strong>in</strong>g Wealth Data <strong>for</strong> Better Fundrais<strong>in</strong>g Results<br />

Follow<strong>in</strong>g fundrais<strong>in</strong>g best practices, Stevenson University uses<br />

Datatel Colleague Advancement as their donor management<br />

system (DMS), and <strong>in</strong>tegrates the data gathered through screen<strong>in</strong>g<br />

directly <strong>in</strong>to their DMS. Stevenson migrated over to<br />

Colleague Advancement to <strong>in</strong>tegrate their results <strong>in</strong>to Datatel<br />

from a posted .csv file to their secured file transfer protocol (ftp)<br />

site. The advancement office uses two different types of <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

with <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong> to l<strong>in</strong>k their screen<strong>in</strong>g data back <strong>in</strong>to their<br />

DMS. Each method is used to support different fundrais<strong>in</strong>g activities<br />

and different po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>in</strong> the fundrais<strong>in</strong>g cycle.<br />

Mass import <strong>in</strong>tegration with data from screen<strong>in</strong>gs they’ve<br />

conducted, and<br />

Individual record l<strong>in</strong>ks to data us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong>’s<br />

<strong>Prospect</strong> L<strong>in</strong>k API, known as WealthConnect.<br />

Stevenson’s researchers use <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong> on a daily basis to look<br />

up <strong>in</strong>dividuals. Us<strong>in</strong>g WealthConnect, they l<strong>in</strong>k the <strong>in</strong>dividual’s<br />

complete wealth profile with<strong>in</strong> <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong>’s F<strong>in</strong>dWealth Onl<strong>in</strong>e<br />

research tool, and results are easily <strong>in</strong>tegrated back <strong>in</strong>to Colleague<br />

Advancement.<br />

Prior to <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g screen<strong>in</strong>g results <strong>in</strong>to their DMS, Turner worked<br />

with Datatel to develop an implementation plan to guide their<br />

process. They tested the <strong>in</strong>tegration with Datatel and determ<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

how the <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong> screen<strong>in</strong>g results would be <strong>in</strong>cluded.<br />

<strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong> data is held with<strong>in</strong> the Datatel Major Donor Module,<br />

which has text boxes that can be filled <strong>in</strong> with data. As well, clients<br />

can customize a page <strong>for</strong> additional fields and notes. “It’s <strong>in</strong> this<br />

area we are able to customize most of the data with specific notes<br />

<strong>for</strong> others to understand,” adds Turner.<br />

Simply put by Turner, “The fact is, you have to screen and br<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the data back <strong>in</strong>to your DMS so everyone can see the data, make<br />

comments and remarks about an <strong>in</strong>dividual. Hav<strong>in</strong>g it all centrally<br />

located <strong>in</strong>creases efficiency with<strong>in</strong> your organization. There’s no<br />

need to spend time updat<strong>in</strong>g records because the data is cleaner,<br />

transparent and readily accessible <strong>for</strong> everyone <strong>in</strong> our advancement<br />

office to view. This <strong>in</strong>tegration between <strong>WealthEng<strong>in</strong>e</strong> and<br />

Datatel makes all of our lives easier.”<br />
