173 ARTICLE VII – SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORKLOAD<br />

174 SECTION 1 – SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS<br />

175 A. Standards Consistent with Nature of Work.<br />

The Employer shall provide reasonable, safe working conditions, material<br />

and equipment consistent with accepted standards for the nature of the<br />

work performed.<br />

176 B. Work Assignments.<br />

Work assignments shall be made only if they are in accordance with the<br />

foregoing principle.<br />

177 C. Some Methods of Resolution.<br />

Work conditions or other facility safety issues (e.g. security) which appear<br />

to be inconsistent with this principle may be brought to the attention of<br />

the area supervisor by any Employee; and if the supervisor is unable to<br />

resolve the problem, it may be submitted for investigation by the Facility<br />

Safety Committee and/or the Workplace Safety Committee.<br />

178 D. Participation in the Facility and Workplace Safety Committee.<br />

The Union shall designate an Employee representative to be assigned to<br />

the Facility Safety Committee and the Workplace Safety Committee. Such<br />

attendance on safety committees shall not result in loss of pay to<br />

Employees.<br />

179 SECTION 2 – WORKLOAD DISTRIBUTION<br />

180 A. Equitable Distribution of Workload.<br />

It is the intent of the Employer to distribute the workload equitably among<br />

Employees in both single work units and departments with due regard for<br />

Employee safety.<br />

181 B. Workload When a Replacement Cannot Be Found.<br />

When an Employee is absent for any reason and if a replacement cannot<br />

be obtained in time, it is the intent of the Employer to distribute the<br />

workload equitably among the Employees in the work unit so that no<br />

undue hardship may be placed on an individual worker.<br />
