Cool Science! Marine Biology Class
Ages: 7-12 years
Have you ever wondered what a shark looked like up close Did
you know that a squid’s spine looks and feels just like a piece of
clear plastic Learn about the fascinating world of marine biology
in this fun, hands-on lab class. You will study an assortment of sea
creatures using live observation, microscopes and dissections. The
dissection labs may include the following creatures: a small shark,
starfish, squid, clam, crayfish, and various coral specimens. Do you
know which marine creature has no brain, eyes, or teeth but is one of
the deadliest creatures on earth Take this class and you’ll find out!
Registration deadline is November 5.

Forensic Investigation
Ages: 7-12 years
This fascinating, hands-on class will familiarize you with the science
of crime scene investigation and forensics as you try to solve a hardto-crack
crime! Using actual methods and tools used by professional
forensic investigators, you will conduct experiments on the evidence
you’ll gather at a “crime scene”. This evidence may include
eyewitness accounts, fingerprints, hair and fingernail samples, “blood”
and writing samples. Time’s running out; the police department needs
your help to crack the case! Registration deadline is October 22.

Checkmate Chess
Ages: 5-12 years
Develop your child’s intellect through the royal game of chess!
Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic
performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language
arts. Also, chess has been proved to enhance children’s motivation,
concentration, focus, social skills and creativity. Learn how to win
at chess! No previous knowledge of chess is necessary. Each class
will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice
time. Due to the small size of the group, each child will receive
plenty of personalized attention. Both beginners and experienced
players are welcome and will get to the next level under the guidance
of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. There will also be a chess
competition with prizes. Registration deadlines are one week prior
to start dates.

Venture into the wonderful world of chocolate as you track its
beginnings as a cacao seed in the Amazon forest to the delicious,
sweet taste you know and love! Learn about the chemical properties
of chocolate and why it may be good for you and how it makes us feel
so good as we...wait for it…make our own delectable chocolate treats.
