Town Library cards” contributed to greater efficiency within the Library, while the public enjoyed enhancements to our regional computer network: allowing patrons to place holds on materials online resulted in a 30% increase in holds, while the e-mail system resulted in an 18% drop in mailed overdue notices. The Library Board noted the passing of former Board member James R. Paige, Jr.. Long-time staff members Matt Barone and Linda Clements left us for new challenges and we welcomed Adult Services Librarian Pat Wiggin and Circulation Department members Beverly Parent and Virginia Dominguez. The Friends of the Library bade farewell to four-year President Margaret Tedone and added several new volunteers to their very busy book sale roster. Recreation Department Ray Favreau, CPRP Director of Recreation “Discover the Benefits!” PHONE NUMBER: 648-6355 HOTLINE: 648-6349 FAX: 648-5048 Fiscal Year 2007/2008 was another landmark year for the Recreation Department underlined with record participation, exciting facility development, a fresh new re-designed look to “R Magazine” (re-structured for distribution twice per year to be more cost-effective) and the introduction of the new 4 th R Before & After School Program! Literally thousands of residents have discovered the benefits of active living and healthy lifestyles through recreational pursuits. And your professional recreation staff, part-time specialists and hundreds of dedicated volunteers were there to help that discovery process! The importance of early learning is certainly recognized by residents as participation in preschool programs continues to be as popular as ever. Our caring and dedicated staff of instructors continue to positively touch the lives of hundreds of South Windsor’s youngest residents weekly. Growing in reputation, as well, is the after school programs offered for school-aged children. These programs serve as a compliment to student’s school day instruction and also provide enrichment for children’s special interests. Adults also acknowledge the Recreation Department as a place to learn, grow and get fit through a rotating offering of wellness and fitness classes like Aerobics, Pilates Classes, Yoga and Body Sculpting, just to name a few. We welcome you to review the following highlights and statistics of the Recreation Department activities for the Fiscal Year 2007/2008. Competent instructors, volunteers and contractors successfully delivered over 285 different recreational opportunities to literally thousands of participants over the year. The vast majority of participation occurred in formal structured programs and c o m p e t i t i v e s p o r t s leagues. Our formal programs accommodated over 3,500 registrants in areas such as: dance, drama, art, and preschool classes. Our preschool activities alone served nearly 1,000 registrants scheduled over an average of 50+ hours per week each season.
