lateral organisations such as ASEAN and regional development organisations <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Asia</strong>n<br />

Development Bank.<br />

It is our hope that the <strong>EGM</strong> will result <strong>in</strong> valuable exchange of views on the dynamic factors<br />

underly<strong>in</strong>g the asymmetries <strong>in</strong> FDI flows and provide viable responses to issues regard<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

magnitude of FDI effects, and the chang<strong>in</strong>g nature of the l<strong>in</strong>kages with<strong>in</strong> the new knowledge-<br />

based economy. These issues, I am sure you will agree, have major implications for develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

countries at various levels.<br />

I would very much like to express our thanks to the Secretary General of the Thailand Board of<br />

<strong>Investment</strong> – His Excellency Satit Sirirangkamanont for the co-operation that he has enabled his<br />

organisation to extend to this <strong>EGM</strong>. Thank you Secretary General.<br />

With your permission, it is now time to proceed with the agenda and programme of Elect<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

Chairmen and rapporteur; and adopt<strong>in</strong>g the Programme by acclaim.<br />
