Purpose and program areas<br />

The Council's purpose is <strong>to</strong> broaden the re<strong>la</strong>tionship between Australia and India by encouraging and<br />

supporting contacts and increasing levels of knowledge and understanding between the peoples and<br />

institutions of the two countries.<br />

In the Arts, the Council encourages understanding between Australia and India by developing an<br />

appreciation of the quality, diversity and sophistication of each other’s arts and culture (including film<br />

and literature) in each country.<br />

Funding sources<br />

The Council is supported by a secretariat located in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in<br />

Canberra and in New Delhi. The Australian High Commission in New Delhi also promotes the<br />

Council’s activities in India.<br />

Who can receive a grant<br />

Individual applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents.<br />

Grant size<br />

There is no minimum or maximum grant size.<br />

Australian Author’s Tour: $14,717<br />

Asialink - Artist in Residency Program, India: $30,000<br />

Janet De Boer, The Textile Forum for Textile Arts (TAFTA): $10,000<br />

Dr Sasi Vic<strong>to</strong>ire & Joey Josia Laifoo : $20,000<br />

The <strong>to</strong>tal expenditure for 2008-2009 was around $142,506.<br />
