Important note<br />
Aga Khan Foundation is <strong>la</strong>rgely an implementing organisation rather than a grant-making foundation.<br />
It works in rural development, education, health, environment and civil society, and funds a few<br />
projects that further its development goals.<br />
Please note that a precondition for funding is the existence of the Foundation office in the country<br />
where the proposal originates or where the project would be executed.<br />

Funding sources<br />
A significant portion of the funding for development activities comes from national governments,<br />
multi<strong>la</strong>teral institutions and private sec<strong>to</strong>r partners (see: http://www.akdn.org /partners.asp).<br />
Eligible countries<br />
The AKDN works in 30 countries around the world, mostly in poor areas of South Asia and Central<br />
Asia, Eastern and Western Africa, and the Middle East. Other programmes, notably in education and<br />
culture, operate in Europe and North America as well as in Asia and Africa.<br />
