OUR OBJECTIVES
The Australian Tourist Commission is a Statutory Authority established
under the Australian Tourist Commission Act 1987. Its task is to
promote Australia internationally as a tourist destination.
Under the Act, the Commission’s principal objectives are to:
• Increase the number of visitors to Australia from overseas;
• Maximise the benefits to Australia from overseas visitors; and
• Work with other relevant agencies to promote the principles of
ecologically sustainable development and raise awareness of the social
and cultural impacts of international tourism in Australia.
The Commission is governed by a ten member Board which reports to
the Federal Minister for Small Business and Tourism,
the Hon Joe Hockey MP.
