Allegations Received on March 5, 2004, Continued 24. A 78 year old alleged victim is being intimidated by daughter. During a Medi- Cal eligibility meeting, the daughter hit the victim in the arm and later pushed her into the car. The daughter is trying to keep other family members away from the couple, yells at the victim, and threatened the doctor with a malpractice suit. 25. An 82 year old full-time caregiver for his wife with Alzheimer's for the past three years is burning out. He trips over oxygen cords, etc. He feels himself to be failing and is worried he will die before his wife. He is interested in skilled nursing facility placement for her but cannot follow-through with the information. 26. The boyfriend is taking advantage of a 21 year old disabled woman. Her mother states the boyfriend was a custodian at high school and that he sexually molested her. 27. A 71 year old woman is threatened and intimidated by her son who lives in the back yard and abuses drugs and alcohol. The victim is extremely fearful of her son. 28. A 65 year old woman is upset at a moving company because they did not unpack boxes. She claims she is bed bound with stage IV lung cancer and cannot access her food nor find her medications. 29. An 83 year old woman has Alzheimer's and her husband also has memory problems. A son hired a caregiver who frequently doesn't show up for work and elicits money from them. Their church has found another caregiver, but there may be problems firing this one. 30. An 85 year old man has memory problems and his wife has Alzheimer's. (Companion report to the one above) Their caregiver tells them sob stories to elicit money from them. A church member will be handling their bills. 31. A 41 year old stroke survivor lives with a male friend, her In-Home Supportive Services provider/abuser. The mother reports that the victim was out of touch for two to three weeks and then reported staying with a friend because the suspected abuser got drunk and broke dishes, mirror, etc. 32. A woman in her 70's visited her bank and reported to the manager that there are over six men in her home that are verbally abusing her and calling her names such as "whore". She also had to walk to the bank from home which is quite far. 33. A male in his 90's is unable to care for himself or his spouse who is now hospitalized. Both he and his wife have refused additional help in the past and now receive minimal assistance (three hours per week) through Elder Options. Their home is cluttered and unsafe, the furnace has been broken for approximately one month; their son has been contacted and is unresponsive. The wife will get limited home care upon discharge from the hospital. 34. A female in her 80's is currently hospitalized and will be discharged with limited home care. She and her husband have refused additional help in the past and now receive minimal assistance (three hours per week) through Elder Options. Their home is cluttered and unsafe, the furnace has been broken for approximately one month; their son has been contacted and is unresponsive. 35. A 68 year old woman took a homeless woman into her home about five months ago. The homeless woman talked the victim into withdrawing all of her money out of the bank and giving it to the woman. Allegations Received on March 5, 2004, Continued 36. The family of a 92 year old woman is not giving her the required medications. The husband is frail and unable to assist in his wife's care. The son, the care provider, uses drugs. The victim is diabetic and her blood sugar is extremely high. 37. A 73 year old male with foot problems has changed doctors frequently and is ignoring the doctors' treatment orders. The Adult Day Health Care staff feels that the In-Home Supportive Services provider is neglecting this man's medical care. 38. A 55 year old dependent adult female was just released from the hospital. Her motorized wheelchair was left at the room and board care home by paramedics and is now missing. She needs her wheelchair. 39. A Son, the In-Home Supportive Services provider, is failing to give his 62 year old, mentally ill mother her medication correctly. This contributes to the woman's delusional behavior. She sleeps for two to three days at a time. The son leaves her alone. He uses her money for his own needs. 40. A 44 year old man who uses a wheelchair and lives by himself, has no furniture, sleeps on the floor, urinates outside in the front yard and appears not to be eating. He may have mental problems. 41. An 82 year old male is on oxygen and has poor cognition; the reporter worries about his health & safety. At times he has a full urine bag and no one there to assist him. There are bags of garbage in the front yard of the home, and a strong odor inside the house. He has a hole in chest due to methamphetamine use 42. A 94 year old woman's mental status is declining. She is becoming aggressive, acting out, difficult to take care of, and placing self in harm's way. 43. A 69 year old alcoholic elder was found non-responsive; he was transported to the emergency room. The house is in total disarray, there is food and trash stacked up, etc. 44. A confused 79 year old woman is hearing voices, non-medication compliant, angry, and combative; possible 5150 needed. 45. An 80 year old woman with right side paralysis is not being given her medications by her son (who is also the In-Home Supportive Services care provider). There are indications that the son is selling illegal drugs from the home. 46. A 60 year old woman's minor daughter pushes and shoves her. The victim is afraid of the young girl. Her husband tends to side with the daughter. 47. A 68 year old woman, believed to have a brain tumor, wandered away from home. When brought to the emergency room, she was unkempt, had a urinary tract infection, anemia, and failure to thrive. This is the second time she has wandered away. The family states that the victim won't eat because she believes they are trying to poison her. 48. A 90 year old woman with ailing eyesight asked a longtime friend to stay at her home as she (the 90 year old) lives alone. Her son, who normally only visits once a month, threw the friend out of the home and told her never to come back. 49. The daughter of an 80 year old woman is using her mother's money for personal needs. 50. A son is physically abusive to his 68 year old mother. 51. A realtor pressured and used undue influence on an 85 year old man to take advantage of the sale of his home. Continued on next page 25
