Costello, CDA, has a BS in Health Administration from Governors State University, Illinois. She has over 40 years experience in the dental field, serving as Expanded Duties Dental Auxiliary for the US Army, a Dental Coordinator for a hospital-based dental center, and a Dental Dam Instructor, lecturing throughout the United States and Canada on Dental Dam Dentistry. Mary is currently Manager of Continuing Education and Professional Relations-Hygenic Products for Coltene/Whaledent, Inc. About the Program This fast-paced seminar combines a multimedia presentation with Hands-On participation featuring simplified dental dam application techniques that expedite dental dam placement. Participants will learn to apply dam for the following procedures: * Endodontic Therapy * Restorative Dentistry (Posterior teeth) * Composite-Bonding (Anterior teeth). You will learn ● Clampless Technique-An alternative to using clamps ● Simple guidelines for clamp/retainer selection ● Winged Technique-A combined-step method ● Modified Winged Technique-The wingless alternative ● Loop Technique-A method to expedite dam placement through tight contacts ● helpful hints and suggestions for dam usage involving interproximal restorations, structurally compromised teeth, and fixed bridges Who should attend this program This program will provide invaluable assistance to all clinical members of the dental team engaged in restorative and endodontic treatment. About the Program This three hour hands-on seminar is intended for those who possess basic dental dam applications skills and wish to expand their usage of dam for more complicated isolations. The program presents a brief review of simplified application techniques that expedite dam placement. In addition, participants apply dental dam to typodonts utilizing some of the advanced techniques discussed in the program. You will learn ● Review of Simplified Techniques -winged technique ,clamp/retainer selection ● Clinical suggestions for using dam with interproximal restorations ● Guidelines to prevent dam leakage/Quick-fix for leaks ● Alternative primary retention/Clampless alternatives ● Isolating structurally compromised teeth ● Isolation for Class V restorations ● Dealing with the Last-Tooth-in-the-Arch Syndrome ● Using dental dam with fixed bridges and laminate veneers ● Multiple quadrant isolation for sealants/restorations Who should attend this program This program is geared for those members of the dental team who have experience in dental dam application and wish to expand their ability in application of this invaluable method of isolation. He has the distinction of being the first lawyer in the history of the Law Society of Upper Canada to achieve a double specialty: one in civil litigation and the other in health law. He is the first Ontario lawyer to receive a specialty in the practice of health law. Irwin is much in demand provincially, nationally and internationally as a guest lecturer in the area of health law and regulation. A practicing endodontist, Lionel Lenkinski was a founding member of the Canadian Dental Protective Association, a mutual benefit group that provides assistance to dentists with patient disputes and regulatory matters. He has spoken extensively on the subjects of risk management and regulatory compliance, as they relate to dental practice. Lionel has a particular interest in matters related standards of care and conflict resolution. Program objectives 1. Inform members about the current regulatory environment for dentists in Ontario 2. Identify areas that are more prone to give rise to actions and complaints 3. Provide a basic strategy for regulatory compliance 4. Inform participants about the need for seeking assistance when conflicts arise 5. Illustrate basic strategies to resolve patient issues 6. Outline the differences between the regulatory process and civil actions(lawsuits) Who should attend this program This program will be of interest to all members of the dental profession. Mr. Matthew Wilton is a litigation lawyer specializing in health law. He has been assisting dentists in RCDS matters, principal associate disputes and employment law matters since 1991. As a litigator Matthew has appeared before the RCDS Discipline Committee, the Ontario Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Matthew‘s practice is focused on assisting health professionals including dentists, physicians, psychologists, nurses and physiotherapists. About the Program This program will be presented as a panel discussion among the three speakers with interaction with the audience. The panelists will use case histories and examples to illustrate areas of particular interest and concern to practicing dentists with respect to the regulatory environment in Ontario.
