LAUGHING MATTERS:
HUMOUR IN THE WORK-
PLACE
Paulette Pillersdorf, DDS
Unionville, Ontario
Yoga Sutra for Dentistry
About the Speaker
Kalman Green is a professional facilitator and popular speaker whose programs
have tickled and touched the lives of thousands of people in North
America and overseas. Since 1986, Kalman has been leading seminars on
a variety of topics that include leadership development, team-building,
mentoring, performance management and personal effectiveness.
Throughout his career, he has come to see humour as a delightful and
powerful way to open doors, minds and hearts, especially in our overstressed
and time-crunched workplace. He is a firm believer in taking his
work seriously, but taking himself lightly as he helps people get more
“smileage” out of their lives and jobs.
About the program
A recent survey of CEOs reported that more than 98% of them would
rather hire somebody with a good sense of humour than someone without
one. However, most people equate humour with joke-telling and the
majority of people say they can’t tell a joke to save their lives. This session
will explore numerous ways to invite laughter into your life without
being a stand-up comic. You will be encouraged to develop your comic
vision and use humour as a problem-solving tool to deal with demanding
situations. You will develop a “smile file” that will help you improve
communication, build relationships, provide perspective, reduce stress
and replenish yourself when your tank is depleted. Through practical
examples, sharing of the latest research on the health benefits of
humour, actual workplace stories and fun exercises, you will create and
take away dozens of ideas to include in your own humour first-aid kit.
Join us and learn how humour
● Facilitates communication by providing a non-threatening medium
● Builds relationships and leads to a sense of staff cohesion in the workplace
● Reduces stress and makes us feel better
● Provides perspective especially in challenging or difficult situations
● Improves the bottom line of any business
● Commands attention
● Boosts your creativity and gives you the energy to think and laugh outside
the box
● Helps you laugh with others and not at others so that humour is used
as a tool and not a weapon
● Lightens up even the most stressful situations
Correct breathing patterns will also be taught to help participants
in dealing with the stressful environment commonly encountered
in daily professional life.
Relax, Enjoy and Learn
● Identify dysfunctional breathing patterns and learn relaxing abdominal
and diaphragmatic techniques
● Identify and correct poor posturing
● Strengthen and increase flexibility in the spine, shoulder and upper
extremities
