Module aims<br />

• To <strong>in</strong>troduce the issue of <strong>energy</strong> <strong>access</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>rural</strong> <strong>areas</strong> and the<br />

importance of <strong>energy</strong> for the achievement of the Millennium<br />

Development Goals (MDGs)<br />

• To outl<strong>in</strong>e the basic <strong>energy</strong> needs <strong>in</strong> <strong>rural</strong> <strong>areas</strong> and some of<br />

the barriers prevent<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>creased <strong>energy</strong> <strong>access</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>rural</strong><br />

• To provide some examples of policy <strong>in</strong>struments for improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>energy</strong> <strong>services</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>rural</strong> <strong>areas</strong><br />
