Only approved MODEMs should be connected to the telephone network!
Carrierless MODEMs are usually used over short distances (maximum cable length,
15km). Typically a four wire system is used in order to realise a network.

Carrierless MODEMs can be used for point-to point connection.
MODEMs are usually mains powered. If a battery back-up is required, the MODEM must
be capable of being powered by a battery.
When a MODEM is used, the following definitions should be made in the PLC.
