Increase your company’s
cash flow for greater flexibility
I want to revisit the topic
of cash flow. As I counsel
small business owners, I
am amazed at how little
attention this critical financial
report receives. The
lifeline of any business is
cash flow. The more you
know about the nature of
your cash flow, the more
effectively you can plan for
your company’s growth and
profit.
Whether or not business
is good at any given time,
good money management
can enhance your bank
balance. Here are seven
approaches to maximizing
your cash flow every day:
1. Be diligent in col-
Not just a cabin, a lodge —
The HIDDEN LODGE
25120 Glen Road, Idyllwild
The property, known as Hidden
Lodge, was constructed around 1947
as the main Lodge to service surrounding
cabins. It has an interesting history
with one highlight of being the primary
fi lming location for Elvis Presley in
Kid Galahad around 1962. Elvis Presley
was fi lmed inside, outside and around
the Hidden Lodge property. Although
the home has been extensively remodeled,
it still has many of the unmistakable
characteristics of the fi lm.
The property is being sold with two lots
and most of the furnishings. There are
an additional 2 adjacent lots (one on
each side) that may be available but
are not for sale at this time.
lecting your outstanding
receivables.
Consider asking for
a deposit before
shipping a purchase
or completing a service.
2. Research your
purchases. Whether the
subject is office supplies
or specialized equipment,
know what constitutes good
value at a good price. Overpaying
for business necessities
is bound to gnaw
away at profits. When you
see the price of a good or
service appear to be rising
disproportionately, check
around for another supplier
who may have a better price
and terms.
3. Track the timing of
your fixed expenses. By
staying on top of
their respective due
dates, you won’t
get caught short on
cash when a critical
payment is due. You
want to pay bills
on time, of course.
Conversely, don’t pay them
earlier than necessary.
4. Consistently monitor
variable expenses, such as
utilities, telephone service,
meals and entertainment.
Employee downtime and
overtime also can strain
cash flow.
5. Use judgment in
paying for purchases with
credit cards. The flexibility
of credit cards comes with
the potential downside of
creating too much debt,
especially during periods
How sad that parents are
not taking the time to teach
their children to sit and listen
to good music, as well as
showing respect to others.
It is amazing that children
can sit and watch TV for
hours but cannot sit and
listen. Is it the children
This secluded property is situated at
the end of a cul-de-sac and offers
the following amenities:
• 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths
• Main living area approx. 30’x60’
granite counters, maple cabinets
• Dual oven with convection and
6. If you have a varied
product line, know which
items bring you the highest
profit (as opposed to the
quickest sales) and focus
on selling them.
7. Establish a line of
credit with your bank that
will be available if needed
for emergency use.
Lastly, remember you
have other resources for financial
guidance in making
your cash go further. The
loan officer at your bank
may be one; other business
owners are another. And,
