Child Care Program
Hot Topics Influencing Early Education
and Child Care: Research, Early Literacy,
Obesity Prevention
Early education and child care settings are
extremely important as vehicles for healthy
physical and social-emotional development. The
standards used to set safety and quality often
lack evidence based on research. Out-of-home
care settings themselves can serve as sites to
do this important work. These settings are rich
in research opportunities and provide fertile
ground to derive evidenced-based interventions.
Pediatricians, along with early educators and
child care professionals, are in position to impact
change in this environment in areas such as early
literacy and obesity prevention.
Faculty: Danette Glassy, MD, FAAP; Pamela High, MD,
MS, FAAP; Sandra Hassink, MD, FAAP
