CONFERENCE INFORMATION
San Francisco,
California Tourism
San Francisco is often called “Everybody’s Favorite City,” a title earned by
its scenic beauty, cultural attractions, diverse communities, and worldclass
cuisine. This walkable city is dotted with landmarks like the Golden
Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz, and the largest Chinatown in the United
States. A stroll of the city’s streets can lead you to Union Square, the
Italian-flavored North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Castro, Japantown,
and the Mission District, with intriguing neighborhoods to explore at every
turn. The city is home to world-class theatre, opera, symphony, and
ballet companies and often boasts premieres of Broadway-bound plays
and culture-changing performing arts. San Francisco is one of America’s
greatest dining cities. The diverse cultural influences, proximity of the
freshest ingredients, and competitive creativity of the chefs result in
unforgettable dining experiences throughout the city. San Francisco has
hotels with first-class amenities, ultra-chic boutique hotels, and many
familiar names in lodging.
Beyond the Golden Gate...
Food and wine enthusiasts agree that the wines, food, and scenery
are world-class in the golden hills of Napa Valley, but scenic Sonoma
(California’s first wine country) offers visitors a more intimate wine tasting
experience along rambling country roads. Talk with a winemaker, do
a barrel tasting, take a tram ride through vineyards; the options are as
endless as your tastes! Sonoma is a mere 45 miles from San Francisco.
Muir Woods is less than half an hour north of San Francisco and is host
to a grove of coast redwoods, as well as tanoaks, bigleaf maples, and
California Bay laurels. The park features a lighthouse, lagoons, sandy
beaches, dramatic cliffs, and coastal dunes. Mt Tamalpais is a mere
2,600 feet, but the state park surrounding “Mount Tam” is home to 200
miles of hiking trails and is considered the birthplace of mountain biking.
The charming communities of Monterey, Carmel, and Pacific Grove are
approximately a 2 hour drive south of San Francisco. The Monterey
Peninsula is home to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Pebble Beach
Golf Course.
Big Sur is a 90-mile stretch of coastline starting about 160 miles south
of San Francisco, between Carmel and San Simeon, and wedged
between the dramatic Pacific Ocean coastline and the Santa Lucia
Mountains. It is famous for being home to a forest of California redwood
trees as well as the Bixby Bridge, Pfeiffer Beach, Jade Cove, and the
McWay Cove Waterfall. Big Sur Village, the one “town” in the 90-mile
stretch of the Big Sur coastline, is considered one of the most romantic
places in the whole state.
