Education in Faith<br />

Goals & Intended Outcomes<br />

The religious dimension <strong>of</strong> Christian life and experience underpins every aspect <strong>of</strong> life at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

We endeavour <strong>to</strong> develop in each student a spirituality and an ethical framework that enables her <strong>to</strong> live<br />

a faith-filled, active life. This spirituality, based on <strong>the</strong> witness <strong>of</strong> Jesus and <strong>the</strong> role modeling <strong>of</strong> both<br />

staff and students, is respectful <strong>of</strong> diverse faith traditions and cultures and is lived with a generous spirit<br />

<strong>of</strong> service for o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

We are committed <strong>to</strong> providing our students with experiences that help <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> explore and extend <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

faith, <strong>to</strong> carry on <strong>the</strong> tradition <strong>of</strong> Mercy and <strong>to</strong> pursue au<strong>the</strong>ntic decision-making.<br />

Ca<strong>the</strong>rine McAuley’s charism, exemplified in <strong>the</strong> spirit and tradition <strong>of</strong> Mercy, is brought <strong>to</strong> life in our<br />

encounters within <strong>the</strong> classroom, our sacramental moments and our commitment <strong>to</strong> social justice.<br />

CATHOLIC IDENTITY<br />

Goal: The <strong>Academy</strong> affirms and proclaims its Catholic identity while respecting <strong>the</strong> personal spirituality<br />

<strong>of</strong> each community member.<br />

Outcomes<br />

a. A shared understanding by all members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> community <strong>of</strong> our Vision, Mission and<br />

Values and our identity as a faith filled community grounded in <strong>the</strong> Mercy charism and <strong>the</strong><br />

Catholic tradition<br />

b. The faith and spirituality <strong>of</strong> each member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College community being nurtured and<br />

supported.<br />

c. A community hallmarked by respect and openness <strong>to</strong> people <strong>of</strong> all cultural traditions and<br />

religious backgrounds.<br />

d. The Religious Education curriculum and pedagogy is engaging, relevant and dynamic.<br />

MERCY CHARISM AND TRADITION<br />

Goal: The <strong>Academy</strong> is a Mercy community that calls all members in<strong>to</strong> its charism, values and tradition.<br />

Outcomes<br />

a. A community grounded in <strong>the</strong> spirit and tradition <strong>of</strong> Mercy.<br />

b. Accessibility <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> Mercy as it has been lived at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Academy</strong>.<br />

c. Young women who possess a strong sense <strong>of</strong> social responsibility and a commitment <strong>to</strong> social<br />

justice.<br />

d. An education that critically examines society’s values and nurtures <strong>the</strong> spiritual, personal and<br />

academic growth <strong>of</strong> its students, preparing <strong>the</strong>m for a faith-filled, active life <strong>of</strong> service.<br />

Achievements<br />

‣ Our Vision, Mission and Values Statement continues <strong>to</strong> be <strong>the</strong> guiding statement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College and<br />

<strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong> all decision making. It is incorporated in<strong>to</strong> all role descriptions, displayed in every<br />

classroom and every area <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College and forms <strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> staff <strong>Annual</strong> Review Meetings,<br />

staff appraisals and all key decision making.<br />

‣ Continued and significant engagement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College Chaplain in <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> College.<br />

‣ Celebration <strong>of</strong> weekly Mass for staff, parents and students and <strong>the</strong> Sisters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nicholson Street<br />

Convent.<br />

‣ Acknowledgment <strong>of</strong> beginning and end <strong>of</strong> year and o<strong>the</strong>r key events eg Year 12 Graduation through<br />

<strong>the</strong> celebration <strong>of</strong> Eucharist.<br />

‣ Appointment <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Faith and Mission.<br />

‣ Participation <strong>of</strong> staff in an annual spirituality day.<br />

‣ Provision <strong>of</strong> appropriate avenues for <strong>the</strong> enhancing <strong>of</strong> links with o<strong>the</strong>r Mercy Schools<br />
