Learning & Teaching
Goals & Intended Outcomes
We are committed to a tradition of scholastic excellence and the provision of a wide range of cocurricular
opportunities. We respect the right of each person to be a learner and we capitalize on
individual differences to maximize student engagement.
Among the hallmarks of successful learning and teaching at the Academy are the development of a well
rounded set of skills and attributes in each student and the capacity for each one to take considered
risks.
At the Academy passionate, talented and committed staff members contribute to a culture of learning
and teaching that invites students into the educational endeavour. This endeavour encourages the
sharing of existing knowledge and learning strengths, but also challenges all to engage with new
knowledge, new methodologies and new conceptual frameworks.
A life-long love of learning is fostered through students and teachers both engaging with ideas, people
and concepts that inspire creative processes and responses. Such processes and responses
encourage the innovative use of information and communication technologies in all fields of study.
When a young woman leaves the Academy she is well prepared to make a mature transition to further
study or the workplace.

Goal: The Academy is a vibrant learning community which equips all members for the promise and
challenge of a constantly evolving future.
Outcomes
a. A personalized learning environment that equips each student to be a centred, resilient woman
of Mercy and compassion.
b. A teaching and learning environment grounded in the learning needs of each student.
c. All students at the Academy are offered engaging, purposeful and meaningful learning
programs.
d. The development of a concise pedagogical vision shared by all teachers.
e. A community that fosters a lifelong love of learning.
f. Students will develop the skills necessary for lifelong learning.
g. An improvement in student learning outcomes.
h. All students are able to access learning pathways that are challenging and meaningful.
i. Student access to a dynamic collection of resources that support the development of deep
knowledge, understandings and skills
j. Young women who are empowered, able to exercise leadership and to make a contribution to
society.
k. Students who are competent, knowledgeable, experienced with information and communication
technologies, and globally literate.
l. Programs that promote excellence and encourage all students to strive to fulfill their potential
and to achieve success.
Achievements
‣ 2011 was deemed the “Year of Teaching and Learning” and the College worked strategically and
with significant and sustained energy to meet our goals in this area.
‣ College involvement in an action research project – AGQTP (Australian Government Quality
Teaching Project) a Contemporary Learning project – “Student Centered Learning, Engaging
Students in Learning and Teaching In a Contemporary World.”
