ACADEMY OF MARY IMMACULATE, FITZROY College Community Goals & Intended Outcomes We believe that the Academy of Mary Immaculate is a community in every sense of the word. Our College Vision Statement captures that sense of community “The Academy of Mary Immaculate is a vibrant learning community grounded in the spirit and tradition of Mercy. At the Academy young women develop a strong sense of social justice within a culture of educational endeavour and individual empowerment.” We are united by a rich and powerful history, the distinctive ethos of the Mercy spirit and shared core values. Enrolments at the College are steady and the students are very proud of their College and enjoy coming to school. Students have made it very clear that “the best day of the school year is Mercy Day” – the day where all members of the College community come together to celebrate Mass followed by a day of shared fun activities. A WELCOMING COMMUNITY Goal: The Academy is a community where all members experience welcome and connectedness to the College. Outcomes All members of the College community understand their role in creating community and their responsibility for extending welcome and hospitality. a. Each student understands her rights and responsibilities as a community member. b. The Sisters of the Nicholson Street Community enrich the life of the Academy. c. An engaging transition process. d. An effective staff induction process. e. An active Alumnae Association. f. A positive and engaged parent body focused on the Academy’s Mercy identity and educational priorities. g. A positive working relationship with Simonds College and our feeder schools. h. The Academy of Mary Immaculate community is a vibrant and involved body in the local community. Achievements ‣ A greater sense of community within the College. ‣ The promotion of the College to the wider community. ‣ The development of relationships between the College and outside organizations. ‣ Continued revitalization of the Parents’ Association. ‣ Continuation of work of the Alumnae Committee in engaging past pupils in the life of the College. ‣ Involvement of College Advisory Council in all key College initiatives. ‣ The introduction of a Parent Portal on the SIMON Intranet to enable parents to access their daughter’s academic results. ‣ Continued student participation at College Assemblies / College Advisory Council Meetings ‣ Classical Concert has become a significant annual event in the life of the College. ‣ The talent of the art students highlighted in the end of year Art Exhibition. ‣ Development of new website which tells the story of the Academy through the visual medium rather than the written. ‣ The implementation of a new College Uniform – now worn proudly by Year 7 students. ‣ The continuation and enhancement of the partnership with Simonds College demonstrated through an inaugural combined Musical Production in 2011. ACADEMY OF MARY IMMACULATE, FITZROY PARENT SATISFACTION A high level of parent satisfaction can be evidenced by: ‣ Strong commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values Statement and the Mercy Ethos. ‣ Strong commitment to the Strategic Plan 2009 – 2014. ‣ Informal and formal feedback ‣ Year 12 Parent Exit Survey ‣ Parent / Teacher interviews ‣ Enrolment Interviews ‣ High levels of attendance at Information Evenings and College functions ‣ Active and committed Parents’ Association ‣ Attendance at Special Events organized by the Parents’ Association, eg. Year 7 BBQ, Mothers’ Day Film Night, Fathers’ Day Breakfast etc. ‣ Support of parents for College activities – Masses, Concerts, etc. ‣ Financial support through Parents’ Association Fundraising. ‣ General involvement of parents in the life of the College. SIF SURVEY RESULTS Comparative data from SIF Survey results in 2010 and 2011 indicates that parents in both 2010 and 2011 have expressed a significant increase in levels of satisfaction in a number of areas. These include: • Approachability • Parent input • Behaviour management • Classroom behaviour • Student safety The data also indicates that a number of other areas remain constant in terms of parent satisfaction: • School improvement • Teaching morale • Reporting • General satisfaction 2011 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY PAGE 28
