d. The meting out of sentences and<br />
the carrying out of executi<strong>on</strong>s without<br />
previous judgment pr<strong>on</strong>ounced by a<br />
regularly c<strong>on</strong>stituted court.<br />
Other serious violati<strong>on</strong>s of the laws and<br />
customs applicable in armed c<strong>on</strong>flict, within<br />
the established framework of internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />
law, are as follows:<br />
a. Intenti<strong>on</strong>ally directing attacks<br />
against the civilian populati<strong>on</strong> or against<br />
individual civilians not taking direct part<br />
in hostilities;<br />
b. Intenti<strong>on</strong>ally directing attacks against<br />
civilian objects which are not military<br />
objectives;<br />
c. Intenti<strong>on</strong>ally directing attacks against<br />
buildings, materials, medical units<br />
and transport, and pers<strong>on</strong>nel using<br />
the distinctive emblems of the Geneva<br />
C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s or Additi<strong>on</strong>al Protocol III<br />
in c<strong>on</strong>formity with internati<strong>on</strong>al law;<br />
d. Launching an attack in the knowledge<br />
that such attack will cause incidental loss<br />
of life or injury to civilians or damage<br />
to civilian objects or widespread, l<strong>on</strong>gterm<br />
and severe damage to the natural<br />
envir<strong>on</strong>ment which would be excessive in<br />
relati<strong>on</strong> to the c<strong>on</strong>crete and direct military<br />
advantage anticipated;<br />
e. Launching an attack against works<br />
or installati<strong>on</strong>s c<strong>on</strong>taining dangerous<br />
forces in the knowledge that such attack<br />
will cause excessive loss of life, injury to<br />
civilians or damage to civilian objects, and<br />
death or serious injury to body or health;<br />
f. Attacking or bombarding, by whatever<br />
means, towns, villages, dwellings or<br />
buildings which are undefended and which<br />
are not military objectives, or making n<strong>on</strong>defended<br />
localities or demilitarized z<strong>on</strong>es<br />
the object of attack;<br />
g. Killing or wounding a pers<strong>on</strong> in the<br />
knowledge that he/she is hors de combat,<br />
including a combatant who, having laid<br />
down his/her arms or no l<strong>on</strong>ger having<br />
means of defense, has surrendered at his/<br />
her discreti<strong>on</strong>;<br />
h. Making improper use of a flag of truce,<br />
of the flag or the military insignia and<br />
uniform of the enemy or of the United<br />
Nati<strong>on</strong>s, as well as of the distinctive<br />
emblems of the Geneva C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s or<br />
other protective signs under internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />
humanitarian law, resulting in death,<br />
serious pers<strong>on</strong>al injury or capture;<br />
i. Intenti<strong>on</strong>ally directing attacks against<br />
buildings dedicated to religi<strong>on</strong>, educati<strong>on</strong>,<br />
art, science or charitable purposes, historic<br />
m<strong>on</strong>uments, hospitals and places where<br />
the sick and wounded are collected;<br />
j. Subjecting pers<strong>on</strong>s who are in the power<br />
of an adverse party, to physical mutilati<strong>on</strong><br />
or to medical or scientific experiments of<br />
