HIGH SCHOOL: Attended West Allegheny (Imperial,
Pa.) High School, playing football for head
coach Bob Palko, whose son, Tyler was a former
quarterback at Pittsburgh…played a variety of
positions, including wide receiver, running back,
quarterback, safety, cornerback and kick returner…as
a senior, he rushed for 1,429 yards on 182
carries (7.9 ypc) and scored 30 touchdowns, while
also having 22 receptions for 423 yards (19.2 ypc)
with six scores, leading the Western Pennsylvania
Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) with
a total of 36 touchdowns, as the team captured
their third-straight Class AAA title…on defense,
Dickerson intercepted four passes that season,
and was named Pennsylvania Class AAA Player
of the Year by the Associated Press…Considered
a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was rated the
fifth-best prospect from Pennsylvania in the class
of 2006…was the 2006 recipient of the Pittsburgh
Athletic Association’s Mercury Award, annually
presented to the top high school football player
in Western Pennsylvania…also named the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette Player of the Year and was a
member of the newspaper’s “Fabulous 22” team.
He added Pittsburgh Tribune-Review “Terrific 25”
and All-Class AAA accolades, in addition to being
chosen to the Harrisburg Patriot-News “Platinum
33” squad…after his senior season, Dickerson
was named Keystone Recruiting’s Pennsylvania
Class AAA Player of the Year and WPIAL Player of
the Year…Rated the 35-best overall prospect and
the fourth-best wide receiver in the country by
Scout.com…that recruiting service also ranked
him 11th on their East Region team…Rivals.com
rated him the sixth-best prospect in the state of
Pennsylvania and the eighth-best athlete in the
nation…earned All-American honors from Super
Prep and was a member of Prep Star’s Dream
Team, in addition to placing 74th on ESPN.com’s
National Top 150 Recruits list…chosen to play
in the U.S. Army All-American Game and participated
in the All-American Bowl, an all-star game
featuring the nation’s top 78 high school players
at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas…as a
junior, Dickerson rushed for 1,065 yards and 13
touchdowns, while catching 25 passes for 517
yards (20.7 ypc) and eight scores…during his
three seasons with the varsity, West Allegheny
earned three WPIAL Class AAA playoff berths and
had a combined 26-8 mark (.765)…also lettered in
basketball and track.
