In accordance with the State <strong>of</strong> Rhode Island Personnel Rules, an employee who exhausts<br />

his/her sick leave credits and wishes to borrow additional time must make the request through the<br />

proper administrative channels.<br />

Procedure From Policy 1200.0226: Loan <strong>of</strong> Sick Time in Advance <strong>of</strong> Accrual<br />

A. Permission for loan <strong>of</strong> sick time in advance <strong>of</strong> accrual must be requested in writing by the<br />

employee through his/her supervisor to the Administrator.<br />

B. The Administrator shall make the request in writing to the Assistant Director and shall include<br />

the employee's status and number <strong>of</strong> hours requested.<br />

C. The Assistant Director, if approved, shall make the request to the Director through the Office<br />

<strong>of</strong> Employee Relations.<br />

D. The employee, his/her supervisor and the Administrator shall be notified by the Assistant<br />

Director in writing <strong>of</strong> said approval.
