THE ELDER SISTERS REPENT.
in
The elder asters, who never had done any hard or
dirty work in their lives, were not at all pleased with
these oiden, but it would not do to disobey the fairy
godmother ;
and above all things they wished to please
Cinderella, who was about to become a princess. So
they took off their lace umdersleereSj pinned back their
silken darts, and went to work with the best grace they
could. CtndereEa meantime swept, and scrubbed, and
set things in their places, so quickly and so well, that
her godmother began to smile a little, and after about
an hour said:
" There, child, run out into the wash-house and take
a good bath, then come back to me to be dressed. The
other girls can finish
up the work."
Cinderella ran away, and returned after a while fresh,
clean, and rosy, wrapped only in a great sheet. The
fairy godmother wared her wand, and instantly she was
dressed in the loveliest clothes imaginable, her hair
beautifully arranged, and her feet covered by elk stockings
with pink clocks, and the glass suppers.
"That'll do," said the feiry godmother, looking her
all over. "The prince is just riding into the court
yarf."
