departed upon his quest, and followed it to the end.
Having seen the Holy Grail, he departed from earth, and
crossing the seas in the moonglade, came straight to the
land where he and his comrades now dwell forever ;
and
whither Arthur, after that last great battle in the west,
had been brought by those three queens who loved him,
Morgana le Fay, Belisante his sister, and the mysterious
Lady of the Lake.
Since then no more had dared to sit in the Siege Per
ilous. So it stood empty, the only gap in the bright
circle of the knights, when Arthur and his chivalry
seated themselves about the Round Table for council, or
for friendly talk, or for the telling and hearing of knightly
deeds.
