? asked Rhoda suddenly.<br />

" Yes, my dear, ' Beauty by name, and Beauty by<br />

nature.'<br />

She's the most charming young lady who ever<br />

lived, and you shall see her, if you will," replied the<br />

bear, his rugged face quite lighting up with pleasure.<br />

Rhoda thanked him, and she and the Chimney-Elf followed<br />

through a little gate which he pushed open as he<br />

spoke, and found themselves in a large and splendid<br />

garden. Roses of every shade bloomed in all directions,<br />

and mixed with them were and lilies, pinks, and<br />

honeysuckles, and jessamine, so that the garden was as<br />

full of perfume as it was of beauty. The hummingbirds<br />

and honey-bees feasted there all day long, the<br />

whirr of their wings mingled with the songs of the<br />

birds who crowded the surrounding trees, and the tinkling<br />

fall of the fountains that danced and sparkled in<br />

the sunshine. It was a lovely garden so lovely that
