were at their highest when a chamberlain glided<br />

nto the tent, and passing behind the king's chair, whisered<br />

something in his ear. Arthur<br />

smiled, and raising<br />

his hand for silence, said alond :<br />

"Knights and ladies, one waits without with two<br />

rare and precious commodities, which he will bestow<br />

upon any among us who may<br />

deserve them. Give<br />

your attention then, for I have sent for him to enter."<br />

The buzz of words and laughter ceased upon the<br />

moment, and every face<br />

was turned toward the door of<br />
