Service Description:<br />
The <strong>MPA</strong> owns and occupies over 600 operational buildings, 1,116 residential properties and 667<br />
rooms in section houses. It provides facilities for a workforce of over 50,000 across London and is<br />
responsible for the stewardship of the police estate.<br />
Property Services undertakes a wide range of activities on behalf of the police estate. They include<br />
the following:<br />
• Provides strategic guidance to the <strong>MPA</strong>.<br />
• Asset manages the entire estate.<br />
• Provides property management and facilities management services.<br />
• Advises on energy and environmental issues.<br />
• Ensures on-site health and safety.<br />
• Provides maintenance.<br />
• Delivers new build procurement.<br />
• Provides support functions for operational policing (public order and incident response).<br />
• Specialist design (e.g. custody suites, front offices).<br />
• Leads on regeneration and planning matters.<br />
Key Activities:<br />
• Managing the <strong>MPA</strong> Estate and provision of accommodation for the <strong>MPS</strong>, including asset<br />
management and investing in the Estate.<br />
• Acquisition and sale of sites and buildings.<br />
• Repositioning and renewing the estate to meet policing need (as published in “Building Towards<br />
the Safest City” strategy).<br />
• Accommodating growth and Step Change plans along with enhancing resilience of buildings.<br />
• Facilities management: improvements and refurbishments, building and engineering<br />
maintenance, FRM liaison.<br />
• Health and safety standards.<br />
• Environmental and energy standards.<br />
• Guarding.<br />
• Utilisation and allocation.<br />
• Management of residential estate.<br />
• Operational support: providing public order and special events, forced entry teams, scenes of<br />
crime modelling, provision of covert accommodation.<br />
• Working with London planning authorities to support regeneration.<br />
