Individual activity<br />

2. Once you have identified the issue you are ready <strong>to</strong> look at the message.<br />

3. When develop<strong>in</strong>g a message you need <strong>to</strong> focus on the follow<strong>in</strong>g three th<strong>in</strong>gs:<br />

Statement – that is your KEY MESSAGE<br />

Evidence - this needs <strong>to</strong> be SUPPORTED BY FACTS<br />

Example - this is the STORY or SITUATION of the issue e.g. a mother of a<br />

child with a disability seeks <strong>to</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d access <strong>to</strong> a school for her child.<br />

4. Divide the group <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong> smaller groups <strong>and</strong> ask each group <strong>to</strong> develop a<br />

message, based on a common issue that they have identified. Their message<br />

must have a statement, evidence <strong>and</strong> a clear example.<br />

5. Once the groups have developed their messages, ask them <strong>to</strong> present it <strong>to</strong><br />

the larger group.<br />

6. With all the messages developed, look at the different channels through<br />

which <strong>to</strong> raise awareness <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>fluence authority.<br />
