civil massacre that has happened
since the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh.
This genocide is not just a story that is told
from generations to generations in Azerbaijan.
The genocide happened in the recent past, and
thus the witnesses of this atrocity are still
alive, trying to survive under the heavy burden
of that pain and suffering. The European
Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) Istanbul
Representative Rena Rzaeva said, “History is
always open to discussion, but Khojaly went
through a tragedy in 1992 while the entire
world was watching and the pain of this tragedy
still continues today.” While Armenia is
promoting this tragedy as genocide,
Azerbaijan is surprised to be left aside by the
world. Therefore, Azerbaijan Center for
Human Capital Development of Azerbaijan
(INDEX) announces the year 2015 as the “Year
of Empathy”. Empathy is defined in the dictionary
as follows: “This capacity increases
cooperation, efficiency, welfare and happiness
when used for good purposes, but it leads to
manipulation when used with bad intentions.”
Azerbaijan is taking steps to make the
world show empathy to its pain whereas
Armenia is manipulating the experiences. The
latter has even managed to carry the “victim”
psychology to a higher level with the
Karabakh occupation and massacres. Then all
of a sudden Armenia gained many sympathizers.
THE WORLD SWITCHES FROM EMPATHY TO
SYMPATHY
We usually confuse empathy with sympathy.
But there is a huge difference between them.
In psychology, “Sympathy means loving or
feeling close to a person or entity.” Empathy
tells the truth while sympathy tells what the
person wants to hear. Today the world sympathizes
with Armenia and telling what it wants
to hear. This approach brings an undeserved
success to Armenia.
Caspian Strategy Institute Secretary General
Haldun Yavaş indicated that Armenia and the
Armenian diaspora do not take any legal
action deliberately and pointed out to the success
of the diaspora based on the association
between relocation and the “Death Ride” concept
in the Bible and Torah. As a result of this
ideology, the world is switching from empathy
to sympathy when it comes to Armenia.
Armenia acts in the expectation that its massacres
and illegal occupations will be tolerated
on the grounds of its so-called cause, just like
it expects toleration for its brutal acts against
