i Grußwort · Welcome 6 Grusswort des Hessischen Ministerpräsidenten Volker Bouffier zur Euro Finance Week 2012 Die Euro Finance Week hat ihren festen Platz im Veran - staltungskalender des Finanzstandorts Frankfurt. Sie leistet ihren Beitrag dazu, den Austausch unter den Akteuren der Finanzwirtschaft zu fördern. In Frankfurt sind wesentliche Institutionen des nationalen und europäischen Finanzwesens und der Finanzmarktaufsicht und -regulierung beheimatet. Prominent zu nennen sind Deutsche Bundesbank und Europäische Zentralbank. Aber auch wesentliche Teile der neuen europäischen Aufsichtsstruktur befinden sich in Frankfurt. Wer hier an verantwortlicher Stelle tätig ist, braucht den Dialog und den Informationsaustausch mit anderen. Die Euro Finance Week bietet dafür ein Forum. Ich freue mich, auch in diesem Jahr wieder meine Verbunden - heit mit diesem Kongress ausdrücken und die Gäste herzlich willkommen heißen zu können. In der weiteren Stärkung des Finanzplatzes Frankfurt sieht die Landesregierung eine ihrer zentralen Aufgaben. Unsere Förderung umfasst erstens die Stärkung der Selbstorganisation des Finanzplatzes, zweitens die internationale Vernetzung des Finanzplatzes und drittens die Förderung Frankfurts als Wissenschaftsstandort sowie als Standort von Aufsichts- und Regulierungs - behörden. Die Euro Finance Week bereichert die Debatte unter Fachleuten, damit kann auch sie den Standort stärken. Ich wünsche ihr einen guten Verlauf. Message of Greetings by the Minister President of Hessen Volker Bouffier for the Euro Finance Week 2012 The Euro Finance Week has a firm place in Frankfurt’s financial sector calendar of events. It promotes the ex - change among the actors in the finance industry. Frankfurt is home to significant institutions in the national and European finance sector and in financial supervision and regulation. To name prominently are the Deutsche Bundesbank and the European Central Bank. Also, important parts of the new European structure of supervision are located in Frankfurt as well. Those who hold a responsible position here need the dialogue and the exchange of information with others. The Euro Finance Week offers this forum. I am very happy to once again express my alliance with the congress this year and to sincerely welcome all its guests. Continuously strengthening the Frankfurt finance center is one of the key tasks of the state government. Our support comprises firstly, the enhancement of selforganization of the finance center; secondly, the international networking of the finance center and thirdly, the promotion of Frankfurt as a science and research location as well as a location for supervisory and regulatory authorities. The Euro Finance Week enriches the discussions among experts; it therefore also enhances the location. My best wishes for a successful event. 7 Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, nach den ausgeprägten Turbulenzen der vergangenen Jahre steuert die Finanzindustrie auf eine Weggabelung zu: Der eine Wegweiser zeigt in Richtung schrittweiser Veränderungen und der andere in Richtung eines fundamentalen Wandels. Beiden Wegen ist Wesentliches gemeinsam: sie führen klar und deutlich vom bisherigen Pfad weg, sie führen durch unwegsames Gelände, und es ist nahezu unmöglich, auf ihnen umzukehren. Vieles spricht für den substanziellen Wandel. Zu grundlegend haben sich viele Inhalte und ihre Rahmenbedingungen verändert, um ihnen noch mit nur kleineren Anpassungen begegnen zu können. Ganze Geschäftsmodelle stehen auf dem Prüfstand. Die Vorund Nachteile des Universalbankensystems vs. einer Trennbankenstruktur werden intensiv diskutiert. Transparenz, Regulierung und Risikomanagement spielen in der Finanzindustrie eine zunehmend entscheidende Rolle. Die Europäisierung der Bankenaufsicht, Pläne für eine Bankenunion und der Weg in eine europäische Fiskalunion gewinnen Kon - turen. Nationale Entwicklungen werden immer häufiger von europäischen Lösungen überholt, vor dem Hintergrund des globalen Wettbewerbs der Banken, Börsen und anderer Finanz dienstleister. Auch in diesem Jahr, sogar mehr denn je, ist Kommunikation ein entscheidender Faktor für den Erfolg. Wie kommunizieren wir miteinander innerhalb der Branche? Wie kommuniziert die Branche mit ihren Kunden, mit Regulatoren und der Öffentlichkeit? Viel wird über die Wieder- und Neugewinnung des Vertrauens gesprochen. Der Ruf ist deutlich hörbar und er wird auch vernommen. Doch was kommt nach dem Bekenntnis, Vertrauen schaffen zu müssen? Die 15. EURO FINANCE WEEK ist das größte Branchentreffen der Finanz- und Versicherungsindustrie in Europa. Vor allem aber ist sie eine lebendige Plattform zur Kommunikation in ihren vielfältigen Facetten. Beteiligen Sie sich am Austausch, an der Meinungsbildung und der Diskussion von Lösungen in der 15. EURO FINANCE WEEK. Ich würde mich sehr freuen, Sie vom 19. bis 23. November 2012 in Frankfurt am Main begrüßen zu können. Ladies and Gentlemen, After the heavy turbulences the financial industry has passed through over the last years, it is now approaching a fork in the road: one direction points towards gradual modifications, the other towards fundamental change. Both directions share common ground: They distinctly lead away from the road most traveled to this day, they cross over rough terrain and it is almost impossible to turn back once the road has been taken. As the shift in numerous basic parameters has been too substantial to be met with minor adjustments only, fundamental change has several aspects in its favor. Entire business models have come under scrutiny. Turning away from the universal banking system is being discussed openly within the financial industry as a possible option. Transparency, regulation and risk management play an in - creas ingly important role. The Europeanization of supervision, plans for a banking union and the path to a European fiscal union are coming into shape. National developments are frequently being overhauled by European solutions in a setting of ever-growing global competition among banks and financial markets and services. Moreover, this year communication is a key success factor, more than ever before. How do we communicate with one another within this industry? How does our industry commu - nicate with its customers, regulatory bodies and the public? A lot has been said about regaining trust. The call has been loud and clear and it has been heard, but what happens after the commitment to rebuild confidence has been made? The 15th EURO FINANCE WEEK is the largest meeting point for the finance and insurance industry in Europe. First and foremost, however, it is a vivid stage for the manifold facets of communication. Join in and take an active part in the interexchange, the opinion making and the discussion of solutions during the 15th EURO FINANCE WEEK from November 19 to 23, 2012.
