The European Banking Federation (EBF) embodies the united voice of banks
established in Europe. The EBF members (national banking associations
from 31 countries) benefit from this forum created in 1960 to represent,
defend and promote the interests of the European banking sector. The EBF
ensures that the experience and the views of banks are taken into consideration
in the shaping of relevant policies; it is the prime sector interlocutor
of the European institutions in laying out their legislative initiatives. The
EBF also actively promotes the positions of the European financial services
in international fora.
The Federation has remained committed to its overall aim: creating an
integrated single market for financial services throughout the European
Union. Therefore, it also provides value-adding information as well as
efficient and professional services to its member associations and assists
new members in their accession procedures, be it to the EU itself or to the
Euro.
The European Federation for Retirement Provision (EFRP) represents the
various national associations of pension funds and similar institutions for
supplementary/occupational pension provision. Its membership at large
consists of institutions for workplace (2 nd pillar) retirement provision. Some
of them also operate purely individual pension schemes (3 rd pillar).
The EFRP has 22 members associations in 15 Member States and 5 other
European countries that have a significant workplace pension system and a
Central & Eastern European Countries (CEEC) Forum (established 2006) to
discuss issues common to pension systems in that region.
77 million EU citizens are covered for their workplace pension plan by EFRP
Members which represent more than 3 trillion Euro of assets managed for
future occupational pension payments.
EFRP Members are large institutional investors representing the buy-side on
the financial markets. They are specialised financial institutions aiming to
provide good pensions for the people in Europe by accumulating and decu -
mulating assets over a long period of time.
