(D) Exhibitions The Equality Authority was represented at a variety of high profile exhibitions through the year.These were: FÁS Opportunities 2000 Exhibition, R.D.S. Dublin. Feb. 5th - 8th. Third Age Expo., R.D.S. Dublin. March 5th - 7th. Women's World Exhibition, R.D.S. Dublin. June 8th - 10th. National Ploughing Championships, Ballacolla, Co. Laois, Sept. 25th - 28th. Key Objective 1 (E) Talks and Presentations In the course of the year the Equality Authority gave a total of 126 formal presentations to groups and organisations throughout the country. On an international level, the Equality Authority hosted delegations from the Czech Republic and Sweden. (F) Outreach strategy The Equality Authority is challenged to develop an outreach strategy which will ensure that the organisation is accessible to those living outside Dublin. Key elements of the strategy involved the following: 1 Targeted advertising and public relations initiatives in local media which tie in with specific local events which the Equality Authority has initiated or which the Equality Authority has been asked to attend. 2 Development of a partnership with Comhairle and the Citizens’ Information Centres (C.I.Cs.). The Equality Authority devised a training module specifically for the staff members of C.I.Cs. During the year, three one-day training courses were given to approximately eighty C.I.C. staff members.The courses were held in Cork, Limerick and Dublin. We appreciate the agreement reached between the management of Cork City Citizens' Information Centre in the South Mall and the Equality Authority, to hold monthly clinics in that location. The clinics, held on the last Wednesday of every month, are conducted by legal staff of the Equality Authority.They commenced in May 2000 and have been well attended. 3 The organisation of 126 specific initiatives with community and voluntary sector organisations and with business and trade union Key Objective 1 - Annual Report 2000 - The Equality Authority page 15
Key Objective 1 Síle Walsh of the Equality Authority at the FÁS Opportunities 2001, RDS, Dublin organisations.The purpose of these is to explain the role of the Equality Authority and the provisions of the legislation and to get feedback from the participants as to the effectiveness of the Equality Authority's overall strategy. 4 Cork City was the location for the first regional Board meeting.The Board meeting was organised alongside meetings with business, state sector and trade union interests and with equality interests. Meetings with these groups took place in Cork on 25th May. Such meetings are an effective method of exchanging information on the equality agenda.A second regional Board meeting with a series of meetings of the same kind was held in Galway City on 29th June. (G) Media Relations Interviews were given by the staff of the Equality Authority to representatives of the print media, local radio and national radio during 2000 on a wide range of equality matters.
