The total number of enquiries under the Equal Status Act
2000 indicate that this area may emerge as the largest
source of enquiry to the Equality Authority in years to
come. On a weekly breakdown for the first nine weeks of
operation, the trend would be equivalent to 8,500 enquiries
in a full year, almost equalling the total enquiries under all
other pieces of legislation under our remit.
The above totals also exclude the considerable activity on
our website, www.equality.ie, where in the first six months
of operation (July - December 2000), it averaged 750 hits
per month and generated a significant number of enquiries
by email.
