through quarterly meetings with equality interests drawn from business,
trade unions, the national community and voluntary sector.These
meetings allow for an exchange on progress made by the Equality
Authority and on the analysis and aspirations of the equality interests,
I.C.T.U. and I.B.E.C. and have facilitated similar exchanges with
participants drawn from their membership.
Finally, partnership is a feature of specific Equality Authority initiatives.
This is reflected in wide consultation across the nine grounds on
particular initiatives. It has been structured around steering committees
which shape and direct other initiatives. It is the basis on which our
two advisory committees have been convened.
Partnership places demands on all concerned.A wide range of
organisations have contributed their time and resources.The Equality
Authority, in turn, has committed its time and resources to this
approach. The benefits in the more effective pursuit of common
equality goals must be adequate to justifying these demands.
Effectiveness flows from the knowledge mix generated as different
interests engage on a common issue. It flows from the shared
commitment to change that comes from joint work. It flows from its
capacity to enable all actors to assume their responsibilities for a more
equal society.
