NCES releases report on Public School Graduates and Dropouts from the Common Core of Data: School Year 2009–10 presenting the latest release of the Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate (AFGR) and the Event Dropout Rate disaggregated by year, race/ethnicity, gender, and, grade. Seventy-eight percent of high school students, nationwide, graduated on time; an increase of 2 percentage points from the previous year. This graduation rate is based on the Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate calculated from enrollment and graduation counts reported to the National Center for Education Statistics at the Institute of Education Sciences, part of the U.S. Department of Education. This report presents the latest release of the Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate (AFGR) and the Event Dropout Rate. These rates are disaggregated by year, race/ethnicity, gender, and, where applicable, grade.
